Insurance question

My car is technically in my fathers name. He also carries the insurance on it.

I havent seen or heard from him in almost half a year.. also it seems that my insurance has expired, yet I have a feeling he didnt renew it ...

Can I get insured on a car I dont own????

Not in DE...and probably not in your state either.

When you say 'technically'...do you mean it's in both your names(as in AND/OR) or just his only? If its' both, you're cool.

Is the car paid off? If so then call him and tell him to tranfer the title over to you.

its in his name only. he bought it several years ago when i still lived at home..

ive spoken to him maybe once in the past year.. I couldnt tell you where he is, how to contact him or anything. ive noted that my insurance card expired.. and he recently stopped helping me out with college..

all without any kind of notice... I dont know whats going on.

So what do I do? Can I just get insurance for myself and not the car?

Sounds like you need to find him.

Once you have insurance, you are covered for whatever other car you drive(normally), but you need to have a car/insurance policy in your name first.

Good Luck.

Call the insurance company and tell them your dad lost his card and you were calling for him for them to send it. You might be able to get info that way. "Sorry it's expired" or you might get "Your dad has to call."
