Infiniti G37X/AWD/Coupe

My buddy on Long Island just leased one on Saturday; ZERO down/ZERO bank fee/ZERO 1st month payment/ZERO dealer prep, license fee, or registration fee/39 months/$449/month; INCLUDING TAX/no BS; I saw the lease papers.
Only downside was no Navigation, or surround stereo; but HAS dual HID'S, heated seats, power roof, seats, & POWER telescoping steering wheel. Not to mention a 7 speed automatic, & a MONSTER 330HP/V6!
Just wish Acura would do the same on it's TL/SH/AWD
Love my TL/Tech/FWD, but this coupe is awesome!

BTW: picked it up the same day!

I wouldn't classify the 330HP/V6 from Infiniti a "Monster". But the G coupe is a very nice ride, love the exhaust note.

When I test drove the sedan, I HATED their 7spd auto. It was never happy with the gear it was in... very annoying. And sadly they don't offer the MT w/ AWD.

It's a heavy ass ride though. 3830lbs for the awd coupe. Thats about the same as the TL 6MT @ 3889lbs.

Also the G37x is approx the same 0-60 as the 6MT TL.
G37x - 5.2
6MT TL - 5.6

Needless to say they are both great cars, an as that forum wars online TV show taught us, only a very small percentage of people will be able to get all that performance out of their cars, even on the track.

You should trade in your FWD TL for the 6MT one, then you'll be able to ride with your buddy in his G.

I think you got those 0-60 times backwards
most mags tested the 6MT TL at 5.2s

I was going with the least aggressive # I found for the TL which was the 5.6 number. But you are correct, MT and some other mags were able to get a 5.2 0-60 time in the SHAWD 6MT. As with everything involving cars, the most important feature is the person behind the wheel.

true. I doubt many, if any, of us can get a time like that, nor would we really want to. It takes a serious toll on the drivetrain to launch like that

The more important stat is the 5-60 IMO. It gives a more of an everyday performance idea.

The 6MT TL still beats the G in that category I believe.

When I read that the G37X w/328 hp was not all that much different in the 0-60 times I was like...what a waste of ponies! One of my buddies who has a Corvette ZR-1 read it and was like something is not right when you factor in the TL's weight and 305 hp V-6. But those are the numbers. That's one reason I take many of those numbers provided by the publications with a grain of salt...who is behind the wheel.

Anyone who buys these cars to drag race is nutty.

I drove both cars over the weekend and the G37xs felt faster, BUT it was an auto tranny. Auto's always feel faster than manuals.

Yea I agree, my butt dyno told me the g37xs was faster around the road than the 5AT TL. I think the G has more torque which you can feel. But when I got into my 6MT TL, it definitely pulls hard when you drive it right.

infiniti's hurting a small bit. we did something similar, sort of. we financed (planning to keep the car for a long while) for 0% apr.
car's quick, but not a "monster" and as someone mentioned, 0-60 between the G37S 6MT and the TL SH-AWD 6MT are similar, if not identical (C&D)

I didn't say they were faster, I said they felt faster. I don't have any tech to prove what I feel, but I think it's seamless acceleration (IE no pausing while upshifting).

Hmm... I'm not sure I agree with that statement.

Manual's are typically geared more aggressively (and weigh less) than their automatic counterparts. Based on my limited experience, manuals nearly always have more punch/grunt.

Having said that... some of these newer vehicles with dual clutch auto transmissions are starting to narrow, and starting to exceed, their manual versions in performance.

Edit: I just saw your post above. The "feeling" is all of course, subjective

It's not even starting to narrow, Dual Clutch Transmissions are just plain faster. This raises a bit of a dilemma for the enthusiast, do you buy the version that is faster and a better performer or do you buy the version that (IMO) is more tactile experience and provides a higher level of personal satisfaction.

The other thing to remember here is that engine HP does not automatically translate to wheel HP. The 2005 Acura RL was rated at 300hp, the 2005 TL was rated at 270hp. If you were to do a dyno test on them you would find the numbers were reversed and the TL put more power to the road than the RL even though the RL had a more powerful engine.

Drive line power loss is going to be different on different vehicles. It could be (purely speculation on my part) that the G loses more of its hp through the driveline than the TL does so even though the engine makes more power, by the time it gets to the wheels the TL could have the upper hand.

Pete....the TL SH AWD actually has more torque than the G 37xx.

Like most, I was looking at auto trans cars. The one thing that struck me immediately in my very first test drive of the G was even though it has a 7-speed trans, it never seemed to know the correct gear to be in. Further, I could catch it flat footed a lot when I needed an extra power burst....almost like it didn't want to downshift....AT ALL....and would wait to see if you would change your mind. That's the best way to explain it.

That, and the many, many complaints about how bad the paint is on the G was what ultimately led me to the TL.

Thanks - I was trying to track down the torque numbers but got sidetracked... made what is obviously now an incorrect assumption. I just laugh when people bitch about how heavy the TL is... and then find out a COUPE is the same weight...

Well, firstly...it's Infiniti. Not Infinity.

I like the deal, as the car is pretty nice. Love the 37 vs. the 35 styling. But if the 7 speed is hunting or not feeling great, then that sucks.

I love the idea of 0% apr. That is the way to go.
