Infiniti G37 Sedan

Hey everyone! Been about 3 years or so since I've posted here. Been lurking a bit lately reading car talk and still see some old faces from 2002 -2003 era.

Anyways, I'm in the market for a 2009 or 2010 Infiniti G37 Sedan for my wife. Which model which year, etc... should I be looking at? How many miles are too many? From where I have looked in the Phoenix area, it seems like most are the Journey package without Nav and can be had for under 30K which is where I'd like to stay. I drove an 09 last Sunday and fell in love. I like the styling a bit better on the '10.

Any help / suggestions appreciated.

The G37 sedan is a nice vehicle. There is no difference between the 09s and 10s so I don't have any recommendation there. Nowadays 15K/year is "even mileage", so anything over 30K or 15-20K (it's mid 2011 now) on the clock is considered high mileage, but you also have to take into account how well the car was kept. I'd take a well maintained car with more mileage on it than a marginally maintained car with even or low mileage on it any day. You may have to do some homework there (ie: get service records, check the tires, paint, etc...)

I have a feeling that it's going to come down to color

The first one I drove was an 09 that looked great with 22K miles. I got on the freeway and tapped the brakes at 75 and the steering wheel shook so bad that my watch clasp came undone. Definitely not going to buy that car.

There's another that we are going to drive locally on Saturday. 2010 G37 Journey with 30K miles for $28K. Does that sound fair?

^ $25k here in Phoenix will only get you a G35 Sedan with 30k miles. The pre-owned market it out of control here.

Dealer or private party?

Seems to be a bit on the high side IMO for the high miles. Should be around $26K.

There was a g37 at the Tucson carmax with under 40k I think.

http://www.carmax.com/enus/view-car/...3-485d0d29fda5

My dad was test driving cars last week and this one was in nice condition, but a bit too sporty/non-luxo barge like for him.

Mileage is on the high side. Either that car was bought new in 2009 or it was driven far, frequently. With that mileage I'd find some comparibles in the area and talk the salesperson down to at least 25.

i almost pulled the trigger on one of these when my lease was up on my TL...wound up getting into a G37S coupe, go figure....but the 09 G37x sedan i test drove was so smooth, i really like that car. my old man has a m35x and tell you the truth, i liked the G sedan better, call me crazy

good luck with your purchase, im sure you'll find a good deal

OK. Possible change in plans.

A close friend of mine called me this morning and asked if I would be interested in his 2007 Acura TL. The car is immaculate and has 23K miles and NAV. He is willing to sell for 19K. Is this a good deal? I used to have an 03 CL TypeS so am familiar with Acura and reliability, etc.

Opinions? I know the TL isn't on par with the g37 as far as performance, but still quick and a nice car for long trips.

Wow. He hardly drove that car.

Seems like a fair price to me.

Maybe try for $18.5K?

It's for your wife right? So I wouldn't be concerned with performance. The TL is a very capable vehicle. If your friend kept the car in immaculate condition I would request the service records as well. An in tact service history is priceless imo. If it is clean and has the service records I think that is an opportunity to buy a great car. As for the price... if you can find an 07TL that is cleaner and as well maintained as his for less, then show him, but if it is what you say it is I'm doubting that.

Word of caution. If problems crop up on the car sooner than later it may strain your relationship with your friend. Just a thought.

Thats a good deal - I would get it over the G37, especially sedan (I like how the coupe looks more)

Yes, it will be my wife's daily driver and car for road trips, etc. My dd is a Jeep Wrangler and we also have a 1966 Mustang, so the TL will be the car that gets the most use. I've been friends with this guy for over 20 years and am not worried about an issue straining our relationship. The current owner knows nothing about cars and has taken it to the same dealer he bought it from for all it's service so I should be able to get a copy of their records. I am going to see it tonight and drive it and will most likely buy it. I'll keep you all posted.

19k doesn't sound bad at all for the mileage. For comparison the Infiniti dealer when I purchased my G37 gave me 16k on my trade ('06 TL w/70k miles)....

Out of control pretty much everywhere.....

Manheim Index Hits Record High in April

Wholesale used vehicle prices (on a mix-, mileage-, and seasonally adjusted basis) rose 1.9% in April and pushed the Manheim Used Vehicle Value Index to a record high of 126.6. Over the past year, adjusted wholesale prices have risen 4.9%.

Lower wholesale supplies and higher retail demand continue to be the driving forces behind strong used vehicle residuals. In addition, wholesale used vehicle prices are also now being supported by the new vehicle market’s tight inventories, steady demand, and higher net transaction prices.<!-- / message -->
