I'm going to Mid-Ohio for HPDE again. Which car do I bring?

I did the one-day Acura driving course at Mid-Ohio last year. I'm scheduling to go again sometime in April. You spend the first part of the course in their Honda Civic skid car. Then, some brake testing. Then, autocross, then several laps around the actual track. It was a blast.

Here's the course I did:
The Mid-Ohio School - Courses - Acura High Performance Course

Last year, I did the course in one of the Mid-Ohio school's ILXs. Here are my first few laps around the track....

This year, I want to bring my own car. So the question is, do I bring the CTS-V or my S2000? If I bring the S2000, I'll be able to do everything but the open track, as with a helmet I not 100% that I'll pass the broomstick test. I could shrink down in the car the inch or so to sneak by, but who knows. I'll be contacting the track this week to ask if it's OK. I don't own a hard top and don't really want one...no room and too much trouble.

My wagon is basically track-ready from the factory and of course I don't have to worry about a hard top.

I'd honestly rather take the S2000 and if I have to, use the school's ILX for the open track session but.....

What would Acurazine do?

PS Mid-Ohio also offers Acura two-day and three-day racing courses, but my work is so busy that I can't take that much time off without jeopardizing other vacation time planned. The one day course is the same as the first day of the two- and three-day courses.

I voted for the wagon but personally I'd rather put a beating on the school's car.

If the s2k is ok to go, S2K.

I'd have just as much fun in the wagon, I'm sure, and I'd learn how to handle it better. It's built to take a track beating. I don't think I'll be joining the "golden calipers" club from this event alone. The only issue I've heard about in tracking this car about getting a "diff hot" warning on the dash. In the exercise I video'ed above, I can't see that happening; the instructor is being very kind to us.

I'll know for sure when I call in tomorrow.

I understand that this is a good problem to have. :)

Either way, I intend to drive each car like it was supposed to be, at least once or twice a year. I know the folks who arrange autocross in my area as well. I just need to get off my butt and go. I've got about 18 more months of difficult slog in one of my extra roles at work, then I'll have a bit more free time.

I'm unbiased but ...

S2000!

If S2000 okay on open track, S2000.

If S2000 not okay on open track, then CTS-V.

But I hear Whiskers > *

I think that track can be a lot of fun without a lot of power. So I pick the S2000.

Sarlacc 03-15-2015 04:54 PM

Cts-v

rossv1 03-15-2015 06:20 PM

CTS-V

But Whiskers>

S2K since it's the same company as the event. I'd feel bad showing up in another company's car and laying a beat down on them at their own event.

Leaning on the S2K. Seems like the lighter car would be more fun

CLtotheTL32 03-18-2015 06:22 PM

S2k!

CTS-V or RLX-SHSHAWDlmnopqrstuvwxyz

You need to get to that event and see what the TL can do.
