If you had a chance to live in Europe
What would you drive? Before this gets crazy, I may have an opportunity to go to Europe for work. If this happens, I may bring my trusty Subaru with me, then look at another car a year or two down the line. Or I might sell the Subie before leaving here and buy brand new / lightly used there.
I have a few ideas but I'd like to hear some of the collective crowd's thoughts. Here are the requirements:
$40K Max. (kids off to college)
Must seat 5
And importing from the US is not being considered.
And I can get Tourist/Diplomat/Military pricing on the following brands:
BMW/Mercedes/Audi/Chrysler/Jeep/Ford/Volvo/Honda (not Acura)
Thoughts?

Whatever it is, I would consider diesel. Diesels make a tremendous amount of sense in Europe, and in the upcoming years fuel will only become more expensive.

Fun is lost when you visit the petrol pumps there.
I remember doing European Delivery for the M3 and asked the lady who was showing my car on why there arent many M3s in Germany. She told me I would understand at my first fill up. Now i know.
+1 on diesel

Given the price of gas in Europe, I'd opt for an Acura TS....er....Euro Honda Accord.

Ive gotten six people into a CRX
TBH, I didnt even read his requirements. I just went off the thread title.
In which case, Id probably go for an Alpha Romeo 159 wagon. Or an Audi RS3. Or a used M5 wagon. I like liftgates.

Wow...toss up. I love Alfa Romeos. I'd also consider the Scirocco...and of course, Euro Fords are love.
I'd definitely be having a few tough decisions!

Because the military or some government agencies have deals with companies such as Chrysler and import some US models over there for sale.

MB 350 Sport ~$36K start.
Volvo S60 Turbo (300 HP AWD) ~$38K loaded
Honda Accord Coupe EX-L V6 (6MT of course) ~$30K
Audi A4 Premium Plus ~$34K
And other worldly:
BMW M3 starts at ~$59K

I live in Japan now, but I may change jobs and go to Germany.

Time to resurrect this: I have a tentative offer to go to Germany, and the final offer should be in this week. Sooooooooo
I am going to try and bring the Subaru over there, and drive it for a little bit, then trade it in.
For the wife, she gets a 2012 Volvo XC90. I don't know if I'm going to go V8 or stick with the 3.2 litre. I'm paying cash so this makes a difference.
I thought I owed all of you an answer. Once we get over there (December / January), I'll post pics and share what the Volvo cost me.

That might work. Hmmm....
The GTI or R32 is also a thought. An A4 Premium w/Xenon and heated seats is $35K for me. A C350 Sport (w/302 HP vs. 211 for the A4) is about $36K....
We owned a V70 last time we were there. And we loved it. I know the XC90 design may be a bit old, but 4 years of service, good warranty, and the wife approving of it makes it a road trip king (Our oldest is gone in 1.5 years, so then we'll be down to 4 total, so the size is fine).
Priced out, a 3.2 AWD with navi and rear seat entertainment gets me for $40K OTD.
Possibly a second car for me. Lots of decisions.

Won't it be kind of hard trading in a RHD car in Germany?
If I were you, I'd get rid of the Subie while you're still in Japan, buy something decent enough for Germany, and then splurge on a nice car just before you move back to the US.
If you do keep the Subaru, you should just drive it till it dies. I think it's cool having a car that's been used in three different continents.

Hmm when I was living in Europe I saw an Audi A4 3.0TDI everyday. Awesome vehicle I would go for that, or the Honda Accord. Looks just like the new TSX but with a better grill.
