I would expect the Hyundai to be much better than that because the 2.5 I-5 is a garbage POS engine and the gear ratios as a result are kinda sucky IMO.
You know high school was more than 20 years ago and I have always wanted a VW Golf. But one way or another I have a excuse not to buy it. I still like the Golf a lot. Why do you say the 2.5 5 cyl is a POS?

So, OP, are you around... 85-90 years old? Harsh ride in a mazda 3? You would practically disintegrate in anything else.

Do yourself a favor and buy a prius.

edit: I even got 33-34 MPGH in my 05 TL. I can get 27-28 in my p-car if I try.

I got my mom into a 2012 Civic EX-L/Navi last month when here 2010 CR-V EX-L/Navi came off lease. Since she was only transporting herself, she wanted to "downgrade" so she thought...lol. Here 1st trip to see her grand daughter was from Wilmington to Charlotte (190miles). The round trip mileage was about 400 miles with 20 of that stop/go in Charlotte traffic. The navigation's instant mpg showed 39mpg. On a side note guys... Hondas new Bluetooth caller I.D. not only shows the number but also the name of the caller if the contact is stored in the cell phone. You also dont have to transfer the call you make on the phone to the car manually. It automatically does it for you.

I would have done the honda Fit over this Hyundai.

The BT in my Scion does the same thing. It's nice to see that Honda finally updated the BT though, the two 8G Accords and 3G Odyssey in my family only show the number, no names, even though the phone book has been transferred. Has Honda finally started streaming music through BT or are they still behind?

OP, if youre happy with the purchase, thats all that matters.

40 MPG in the civic...wow.
I think the fact that we're using a feature like bluetooth name display to determine the worth of a car is pretty sad. What have we become?!!??! What ever happened to picking a car because we loved how it DROVE!!!

I thought all bluetooth cars do this.

Win-Win.
this reminded me of a story that was in news here localy about a woman who's car was pulling to the left constantly. And she took it in for an alignment a bunch of times and couldn't fix it. Then they told her she's too fat and that the car is pulling to the left because of it and told her to sit in the car while they do an alignment hahahaha

I think the car was kia rio or something I will try and find it.

If anyone is going to maybe buy a 12 Accent I have a word of advice. Sometimes in the test drive you cant tell too much about a car. I've had it for 8 days now, the car has a very low sweet spot in the powerband. It is the opposite of a Honda motor. From basically 1800 rmp to 2600 rpm is where all the power is from unless you really need to merge on the freeway. Revs outside of 3k is like making noise and feeling the motor. If you just want a quiet low revving car thats roomy this is the one to get.

Because it's a loud, thrashy, anemic engine. I had to downshift going up some of the grades on my drive back from Ohio because at 54k miles, the engine has no guts.

50% tint on your car looks lighter than 50% on pttl's 5.0 Mustang

Lawsuit filed against Hyundai for their bogus claims of MPG on the Elantra.

I would imagine the Accent is next.

Its been a year now and my car now gets 24mpg in all city driving conditions and averages 26-27 overall 50/50 hwy city. I detest the low MPG but love the engine feel and how the car drives. I think its drives and steers terrific. 100% happy with that part.

I get a gas rebate card for the mislead MPG sticker. I am getting about 50 bucks for every 5000-5500 miles I put on the car.

If I had to do it all over as much as I like the drive I would not get this car. I would get either a Fit or Yaris cause these 2 cars from forums always hit the MPG target.

24 mpg That's barely any better than a CL-S.

OP - if you are doing a lot of passing on the highway and/or are keeping the RPMs higher, you are definitely shooting yourself in the foot. We have an 09 Accord EX-L with the I-4 under the hood. We have done multiple 1200 mile highway round trips and have gotten as low as 26.7 MPG but also as high as 33.4 MPG. The difference is how often and how long the transmission downshifts out of the top gear. Along our trip there are multiple long inclines as well as the road being only two lanes for 100's of miles. This leads to all of the jamokes parked in the left lane doing 63 MPH and subsequent passing on the right. I couldn't believe the difference, but it is definitely a difference maker.

Yeah, it feels like it often. I do get 37-40 mpg if I do a complete straight freeway run say Seattle to Portland with no traffic thou. Sad to say with Seattle being so congested a clear freeway run is hard to see.

With gas so expensive I wish I could wake up and see a Fit in my driveway instead now.

I rented an Accent in Vegas during 4th of july weekend.

I am not going to comment on the quality of the car.

But i thought the MPG was great! i drove the SHIT out of that car for 4 days and when i filled it up, it was only 3 gallons.. i was SHOCKED!

I didn't get the exact MPG # but it is better than a Civic for sure. (My GF has a 8th gen civic)

but the tire size..... 175????? i had to look twice to make sure i was seeing it correctly.

That blows OP but then again, I don't see the point in downgrading for a few MPGs but I'm sure that was discussed earlier in this thread.

Glad to hear you like driving it.

yup, i did not even realize they still make 175 width with 14" hubcaps. It looks like the car is riding on bicycle tires from the back.

ires and Wheels

Steel wheels

14 x 5.0 in. wheels

P175/70R T tires

Null tires

Tire repair kit

Full wheel covers
