I haz roundel

Am I cool now?

Just picked up a 2001 530 yesterday. Car is in pretty good shape except the motor is cooked. I'll get some pics up tomorrow. Not much to see though. Now time to find a good low mileage motor to drop in. I'm so tempted to drop an S54 in there, but the sensible side of me says just drop a stock motor back in. If there was only a way to shut the sensible side up :devilgrin

Maybe not yet. Do you haz:
- experience with the term: MTBF (Mean Time Before Failure)?
- full range of Snap On tools (i.e. BMW extended warranty package)?
- a BMW parts manager on speed dial (i.e. the Pusher)?

If I'm not mistaken, Brett works at a BMW dealership and knows his way around with these cars. So not only does he have a full high tech shop IF anything was to go wrong but a part manager is within arms reach.
My brother still drives his 00 540i 6MT Sport and it still drives smooth without any problems. I won't even start about my 03 M5. I think he's cool.

Most likely just the same engine, a M54.

Lets see
-I know all the problem areas with these cars and will be fixing most of them getting the car running.
-My tool box looks like a snap on catalog. Any tool I thought I may ever need I've got, plus have access to every BMW special tool and all repair instructions.
-I got one about 100 feet away from me at work. Is that good?

No, more like a new heart.

We can rebuild him, we have the technology...Better than he was before. Better, stronger, faster

Is making money with it cool? Because thats probably what I'll end up doing with it, flipping it. I wouldn't mind keeping it, but I don't have anywhere at home to keep it, plus I really have no use for 2 cars.

haha, contemplated saying, "i need a new heart," but it seemed over-the-top.

But can you make the engine produce that cool bionic noise and make everything go slo mo when you rev it?

Its all good and so cool. You have the BMW means and the way. Best thing to do with BMW's is sell them and make money.

oh i love those e39s. Before I got my TL I was looking for a 2003 with low km manual but I couldnt find one anywhere. I was on the look out for 4-5 months and was getting pissed off. Then I got a 3g TL and i like it but next car is gonna be a 5 series in a couple of years if I can find a manual. Good luck with the car man, it seems like you know what you are doing.

Nice pick up. The E39 was always a favorite. Is it a auto or manual?

So in the new economy, don't flip houses, flip cars (and you can do it easily with BMW, because of your tool box)
