Was I Being Jobbed?
I took my 2015 TLX in for A1 service; 37,000 miles. After writing up the service, the advisor asked me to follow him where he tried to sell me a new timing belt for $900+. I asked a few questions and he said the car was 7 years old and that the belt was probably in danger of failing resulting in all forms of catastrophic events. All of this occurred with any inspection of the timing belt. I declined the service. A bit later, he told me I needed a new torsion cylinder as the existing one was showing sins of wetness. I asked to see it. Upon my inspection, the part was dry as a bone. I declined the service to replace it. By now, I was really suspicious of this guy..
Upon completion of the A1 service, he went over the service report which indicated the tires were cupping and making road noise. The mileage when I brought in the car and picked it up was identical. How did they determine road noise when the mileage was the same? I expected an option to replace the tires!
I spoke to the service manager who listened to my concerns but said the service being discussed re the timing belt was only an option and they had my best interests in mind and felt a responsibility to present to me service options.
Any thoughts?
