And your point is?

If you want a sport sedan, go buy a different car.

If they start making rwd sedans like they did and all of the others variation of their vehicles rwd,fwd awd etc.they will probably be a better choice than Acura in the next couple of years. their warranties are the best in the industry and all those features for a lot less money also they are starting to improve alot, and i think personally that if you look at pictures of this new car the Genesis it looks more upscale than anything Acura has out there now.http://www.autoblog.com/2008/01/08/detroit-08-preview-2009-hyundai-genesis-shakes-things-up/

If I wanted a sports sedan, I wouldn't be looking at Acura or Hyundai. I'd be at the BMW dealer.

I'll wait and see what happens. In my opinion, the koreans are quickly improving in everything from cars to tvs or cellphones. It sure seems to me that things are moving quickly with Hyundai than they are with Acura. However,I'm not one to oversee a nice automobile because of the badge it is wearing on the bonnet.

You know what my point is, the rwd platform is back more than ever in the last twenty years specially in cars over $35000, Acura should be in the game just like Infiniti, Lexus is, even Pontiac is coming out with the G8, the Crysler 300,the Cadic cts. thats why Infiniti to me is better and I can't wait to get my hands into a new g35 sport this summer. If you drive an Infiniti G35,Fx,Ex,M you will see that in the handeling and power department they left Acura behind and even now the interior caught up with Acura. They can't keep in the game selling dress up Accords,Pilots,Crvs,Civics.

You make it seem like everyone can afford these cars.

Not everyone has the ability to afford Infiniti's or Lexus'. They do just fine in keeping up in the "game" by selling their Accords and Pilots. Not everyone wants a Sports RWD Platform vehicle.

Until I see a Korean car with an interior that impresses me I don't think Acura has anything to worry about. I remember when the XG350 came out and it looked OK, then I sat in one and it felt terrible and pictures did it justice. Not saying its impossible but I highly doubt people will seriosly cross shop Acura and Hyundai, unless they are cheap bastards.

I've been in an XG and it was real nasty. Hated the way it drove, too. It was hard to keep the damn thing on the road, it felt like a Lincoln Towncar, all floaty and shit.

and I bet the OP doesn't know that the TL-S lapped faster than its RWD competitors on Willow Springs (this has been discussed for so many times on this forum anyways...)....even though it's FWD and has the worst power to weight ratio...yea sure drivers can be the main factor but that's the the point..the point is that the TL can still at least keep up with the other so-called RWD sports sedans...

While I like what Hyundai is doing, they still have a ways to go in producing a sedan sportier than the outgoing 7G Accord V6. While their next sports sedan may eclipse the 8G AV6, it is rather 'pie in the sky' to suggest that Hyundai would leapfrog the likes of the TL-S or RL.

That said, I do commend Hyundai's effort and look forward to seeing the final product.

yup, the one and only one that was actually conducted by a professional race car driver..not a bunch of Motor Trend/ Car and Driver/Road and Track car journalists that can't even tell the differences between polar moment of inertia and 50/50 weight distribution.

You'll never catch me spending my hard earned dollars on a Hyundai. I don't care what kind of pedigree it supposedly has.

As Hyundai improves, it just means more competition for everyone. That's a good thing in my mind.

I used to say the same thing... but my opinion has changed over the last year or so... RWD sedan with a 368hp V8 for $35K ?? It's gonna be worth at least a look. You don't get that kinda specs with a $50K Acura RL (altho' nobody is paying that for an RL).

I'm very interested in the genesis coupe...

And when honda and toyota came here that was the same mentality, now look at where they stand with american consumers.

Hyundai Is fast and coming a good car brand. As their product improves, they start making more quality larger cars and not the little cheap cars that people associate with that name so will their reputation. They did something honda is quite frankly afraid to do and offer something other than just a FWD car to compete with the other brands out there and will most likely pay off, big.

hyundai has stepped their game up substantially over the last few years, they have a couple things to work on here and there, but they are fast approaching the big boys in the auto world. they made the major move with the new dedicated rwd chassis, which as far as we know honda is still eons from making.

That is a fairly 1986 mentality. Hyundai has come A LONG WAY since the likes of the Excel and Scoupe. I would not dismiss them so readily.

Oh, I agree...I realized that a while back when I got a Sonata as a rental for a week or so. I was definitely impressed with the build quality. Light years ahead of the plonkers they first came out with.

My attitude is more based on style, excitement value and resale value, not so much how well they're screwed together.

Took a long look at the Hyundai minivan when we were shopping. The only thing that stopped me was their history. Give it a few more years and you'll start seeing more Hyundais in the driveway that Hondas.

I think with the numbers these cars are making now, FWD still works, but any more will be a different story...

as for now, I'd go for a Hyundai instead of any product coming out from the Big 3....

Which is why Acura is going AWD, but unfortunatley that adds weight, complexity, and cost.

Is this also Hyundai's first production V8? They definitely LEAPFROGGED Honda/Acura in that regard.

I guess you meant the next gen TL right? Most likely that will have more than 300hp and FWD just won't do it.

Switching to AWD will have its disadvantages, but at least they are not staying with FWD!

And I think you are right, that's Hyundai's first production V8.

Hyundai has advance very far in 20 years, but they are not in the same league as Honda/Acura.
They may have spent $540M in R&D, but that still pales in comparison to the $5B that Honda spends.
Hyundai is good at trying to duplicate features of their competitors, intial quality is good, but long term and safety-wise there is no comparison to Japanese vehicles.

The Acura and Hyundai brands both started in 1986 coincidently... Acura has been riding hondas coattails since then, and this young upstart comes out with a 368hp v8 powered RWD sedan first... Pretty impressive if you ask me...

Lexus has been out since 1989, and they probably are considered by a lot of people to be more a prestigious brand than acura...

My mom owns a TL and I have a fully loaded Accord. I have driven all the current Acuras, they're not just "dressed" up Hondas... Have you driven any of the current Acuras?
