How much does a car depreciate when it rolls off the lot?
Having searched the internet, I still haven't found a definitive answer. How much do you think an acura depreciates once it leaves the lot?

At my dealership with cars that dont even have a value yet in the Black book we have to get the dead cost of the car from the new car manager and go back $4-5K depending on the car.
I work at a Mazda dealership though and majority of the cars that get traded in that new are Mazda's. So of course that amount would vary depending on the manufacturer.

Do you think the tsx would fall in that 10% category? I went in today and the dealer wanted to sell me the car for a bit under msrp. The car was an 09, a few months old, and had 2k miles. After a bit of haggling I received $500 under invoice. The price didn't seem good enough to grab, so I walked out. Bad move?

Trick question.
Lets say you buy an 09 TL and normally it depreciates 5K the minute you slap a plate on it and drive away. If in 2 weeks, Acura has a $2000 factory incentive on the car, you depreciate another 2K instantly.
The other side of it it is supply and demand, if it's a hot car in limited supply, then the depreciation would be less until the supply catches up with the demand then your car undergoes a market adjustment as well.
In the end, there is no definitive answer.

There is no set number or percentage, it will vary greatly on the car itself, the deal that was struck between dealer and the purchaser. As someone said earlier, some cars won't drop a dime in value while other will plummet and while extremely rare, others appreciate.

Depends on the car, and how much you payed for it.

Imagine buying a 2008 Chevy Truck at the beginning of the model year for sticker and having GM put $10k in rebates/incentives on them at the end of the model year. The term upside down doesn't even begin to describe that level of financial turmoil.

It all depends on the car....for example: A new Scion TC only loses maybe a couple grand the first year..max; now a brand new Audi A8 W12 depreciates $56K in the first year....(I read this in a study about a year or two ago) Just take a look at what the TSX's are selling for and you can pretty much tell.

The quick and dirty answer is that depreciation on any car= Original price less what the buyer of the car( or market) is willing to pay at the point of trade.
There is no magic formula if that is what you are looking for

What would be a "deal" for the buyer of a 2011 MDX with Advance and Entertainment? They are "asking" with a discount that is really 3 thousand off MSRP and I can buy an 2012 Advance with Entertainment at invoice (same price really since the invoice difference on the Ent. Pkg. is very close to the MSRP) or the Advance only option for below invoice. I asked why they still had this vehicle and salesperson said people just don't want to pay for Advance since the price difference is significant when Tech has what they neeed/want. I would REALLY appreciate if someone can give me a number that I can feel good about working towards before I speak with the dealer. MSRP is 55,340 for Adv/Ent and 53440 for just Advance. Invoices are 51,047 and 49,320. For 2012 I have price from 2 dealers below 49 for Advance only. PLEASE, any thoughts or amounts very appreciated. THANKS!

Depreciation - smusmeshiation. I don't think it matters unless you plan on selling your car back to the dealership in a week. We all know that cars are depreciating assets, so get the one you like, love driving it and don't bother yourself too much with the depreciation factor.

Thanks, yes, checked out the online resource sites but since this is a leftover, thought someone would have some insight into basically difference between 12 and 11 of same vehicle when they are not overly common but it seems many don't want to buy them with these options.

If they admitted to no one wanting to buy it, use that to get them down to ~$51-52k on the Advance/Entertainment.
