I am on 13 years right now and counting for my Nissan.

Could I afford a new car, yes, I just don't need it especially with a new house around the corner. I work at home, don't drive all that much long distance, and I don' t need to impress anyone.

Maybe we should start adding in number of miles.

Camry: 30K in the 3 years
Maxima: 170K in the 8 years. 99% of that was in the first 5 years I had it.
CLs: 52K in 3 years
Pathfinder: 22K in 2 years.
I35: 50K in 2 years.
The most miles I put on a single car was my TSX, which I had for 3 years, 42k miles, next closest would have been my GTI and that was 24k miles in a touch over two years. All the others would be much lower.

Not counting the Camry because I was in college when I had it, the one that I used the least was the CL. It was parked in the dealer's garage most of the time.

Yes. Thank you. That is part of the reason why I'm not selling. I enjoyed the work but don't have the time to do another project. I did very little body work on it (a buddy helped me out with about 99 percent of it) and it still took a lot of my time to work everythign else out.

I remembered when you posted a pic of it. I thought it looked great.

12-15k a year isn't that bad as far as mileage.
I average 20 k on both cars i own.
my 94 Accord has 310k
and my 00 Oddy has 200k (that's closer to 25k)

Now I'm closer to 6.5k/year which is why I have a hard time justifying going through vehicles as quickly as I once did.

Besides my escort which I have had for nearly 10 years now, I never had a car for more than 2 years. I plan to keep the TL; I've had it for nearly four years now.

98 Ford Escort: have had for over 10 years, plan to keep
99 Ford Mustang V6: Had for 3 months (traded for GT)
01 Ford Mustang GT: Had for about 18 months (traded for Maxima)
04 Maxima: Had for about 15 months (sold to private party)
06 G35c: Had for 12 months (12 month lease)
05 TL: had for nearly 4 years and plan to keep it.

You could lease no problem.
that's one of the reasons i can't lease cars or trucks due to putting 20-25k on a year.
the most i hear of them "giving you" a year on a lease is 15k
i'd have to park it and drive something else for 5k a year atleast. or pay a dime a mile for 5k miles.which is like 500 bucks a year. which is like another payment

How do you guys who keep a car for 2 years or less, NOT take a beating on them, when you trade/sell them? Do you buy them used? Just curious.

The only car I got used (besides the escort) was my Mustang V6. Since then I bought new; The reason I got rid of them so fast is because I got tired of them and started to hate driving it (Maxima). And as much as I liked the G35 I knew I would get tired of it after a year or so, which is one reason why I did 12 month lease on it.

The TL is the only car that I liked enough to keep for good.

plus trading in a car every couple of years did get kind of expensive!

Yes, my '88 is the 1st gen ('86-'89). I actually thought the car was sort of dorky looking with the upright body and pop-up headlights, but figured it would cost less to insure and last longer than the Mustang 5.0 LX and CRX Si alternatives. I didn't think I'd put 160K+ miles on it and still have it 20 years later!

Compared to most of you, I keep vehicles a long time- the TL is 3 years and counting, the Odyssey is 4 years and counting, and every other car I've ever bought was 6+ years, other than the first (totaled in year 2).
I'm Crazy Acura's opposite...

85 Ford LTD = 2.5 years (put about 30k on it)

94 Acura Integra LS = 12 years (sold with 195k, and it's still going)

94 Acura Integra GSR 4dr = 3 years (Blew it up racing, and parted it out, had 100k, I put on about 35k)

05 Acura RSX-S = 1.5 years (Traded in for current TL) (19k)

03 Acura TL-S 11/06-Current ( picked up with 26k, has 62k, KEEPING IT)

If you buy right it not a big deal, if you don't you really get screwed. I could easily trade in my s2k when its a year old and it would cost me about $3k in depreciation, not really too bad. In addition, at least in NY state, when you trade a car in you only pay sales tax on the difference, when I traded in my G on the S2k, I paid around $150 tax on a brand new car. Not to mention aside from a few oil changes and gas I usually don't have to do anything to the vehicles during my ownership, which I like.

^ What he said.

My RX-8, which is the car I owned for the shortest period of time, was purchased pre-owned from a dealer. I kept it 4-5 months (can't remember exactly), hated it... and sold it for the same price I paid for it on eBay.

If you buy a car used you're always going to sell it for less then what you paid. Thing with me is that I don't care sometimes. If I want another car, I sell my current car and get another car. Of course now our philosophy has changed and I don't know that I will buy another brand new car again. Makes much more sense to buy pre-owned and let someone else take the depreciation hit

Hmmm, lets see:

1. 85 Pontiac Fiero
2. 92 Honda Civic LX
3. 91 Honda Accord EX
4. 86 Honda CRX Si
5. 96 Dodge Avenger ES
6. 94 Honda Prelude VTEC
7. 85 BMW 325e
8. 93 Honda Accord SE
9. 95 Honda Prelude VTEC
10. 04 Acura TSX w/nav
11. 97 Ford Expedition (still have)
12. 06 Honda Civic Si
13. 08 Infiniti G37S (still have)

Overall, the Ford is the longest I've had any car. I got it in Oct 2004, just around the time I got my TSX and it has seen the TSX and Civic come and go. It'll probably see the departure of the G within the next year or so. I definitely have a problem....

Oh and I've had 3 bikes:

93 Honda CBR600F2
05 Honda CBR600RR
06 Kawasaki ZX10R
