Honda Certified Warantee Question...

Hey guys I need some advice from you guys. This may be kind of long but i would greatly appreciate it.

My pastor is looking to get a 2004 honda pilot EX with 37000 miles. The sticker was 22,995 and he got it down to that out the door.

the thing is that its not honda certified, so i told him to get a carfax report done on the car and ask the dealer about that. From what i understand Honda sells certified used cars, and the ones that arent, may have been in an accident.... if im wrong about that please let me know.

the dealer tried to sell him a waranty like a 5 yr 60K and then said he might be able to do the 4 yr 48 and then still lowered it further to a 3, 36K. FINIALLY he says that hes not sure if he can give him the 5 yr 60 for 23 OTD. essentially whatever waranty he gives my pastor its gonna cost about 1000. that might be ok for the 5, 60K but for a 3,36??

when my pastor told me this i thought it smelled fishy. Does it to you? any advice on how to go about things? 23000 is right around what they planned on spending, and they would preferably not spend any more.

thanks for the advice ahead of time!!

I second that. Sometimes if you ask them, the dealer will certify it for you, for a fee of course. Just extra piece of mind. And with the certification, you also get a warranty. Not sure how much they will charge to do this, but when I was looking for a certified TSX, I found one at $23,500 but it wasn't certified. When I asked about getting it certified, the dealer said ok for $23,900. I ended up not taking it because I got a better deal elsewhere, but it doesn't hurt to ask. Sometimes they just don't certify them in order to keep the price down, like in my case.

Just my opinion, but for me, I'll only buy new or certified w/warranty.
