Definitely

It's garaged now and will probably see between 3,000 - 5,000 miles per year at this point. The ILX is my daily driver but the Legend will always be my baby just because of how much history I have with it.

Several of my friends and even an individual at Honda HQ have mentioned the idea of putting the car into the Honda Collection museum in Torrance, but I think it'd be bad for the car to just sit. It's used to being driven. It needs to be driven and actively maintained. It did sit inside the museum for a few hours the day it turned 500k last November, though.

Yeah as someone already noted in the later responses, it's Shigeru Uehara - father of the NSX and the S2000.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Shigeru_Uehara

I met him in September 2010 at Acura headquarters in LA during a Honda S2000 "Homecoming" event. Here's a picture of him doing the signature.

And yes my ILX has the OEM "Sport Underbody Kit" all the way around, plus the Lip Spoiler, Accessory Wheels, Illuminated Door Sills, Cargo Tray. Those are all the accessories I had them put on it.

Do it! Once you get the initial background of paperwork logged, it goes really quickly to just add a new line item each time you perform ongoing maintenance.

I think I've taken mine to probably a dozen dealers across the country. But def add the expenses if you have that information available. Makes a handy way to calculate your miles per dollar. Or dollars per mile.

On Wednesday I will have had the ILX 3 months and it has about 14,700 on it now. I drive a ton. My work commute is actually really light (10 miles each way, Monday through Friday). My weekends are when I travel. I have family all over Utah, frequently visit friends in California, and take a cross-country trip at least once a year. My dad and I also drove the Legend to Fairbanks Alaska in 2006. That was an 8,000 mile trip in itself.

Yeah would be awesome to see what Acura could do if they brought back a big body V6 coupe again and resurrected the Legend name.

Yeah definitely. I even replaced things "BEFORE" they broke. Example being two of the radiator replacements. The radiators weren't leaking, they'd just been used for a couple hundred thousand miles so I figured it was time.

Haha, they did say they had a fair amount of 'interest' in the car during the 10 days it was in there! I told the Service Manager that I'd sell it if someone wanted to offer the MSRP of $41,885!

The Vigor is a rare breed! 92-94 only. I like them. Though, the styling is a bit more 'boxy' than the Legend and hasn't aged as well. The 5 cyl powerplant is definitely fun. As for the ILX, here are a couple more pics.

i took my spreadsheet the extra step...i added in the cost for any maintenance and extra goodies i've added to the car. i did it to all 3 cars in the household. geez...the accord we have is 9+ yrs old, has about 75k, dealer serviced and he's only spent about $7200 on the car so far on maintenance. my 7+ yr old TL...i've spent a little bit more...pay the price for being particular.

the ILX looks better with the body kit. do you plan on doing anything else to it?

Nice job on getting the spreadsheet finished up! Once you've got the bulk of the paperwork entered, it's really a breeze to just add a new line item each time maintenance is performed. As for the ILX, I'm not planning on doing a ton with it mod-wise. The only things I've done are tint the windows (20% all around) and add a 3M clear bra to the front end. I've ordered a moonroof visor for it. I wish the car had a visible exhaust tip so I might research that. Oh, and I want to add the chrome trim to the front foglight surrounds that comes standard on the Hybrid model. Example:

Oh good call on that. Will have to look into it. The last few entries of the spreadsheet need to be cleaned up a little. The timing belt and water pump that were done at 512,000 were actually covered by Acura but I still wanted to show the price in the spreadsheet even though it wasn't out of my pocket.

For sure. Start blogging, email Acura's PR people, and drive the hell out of that TL!

Yes, they do! The car had some special features.

Exactly. The window sticker actually calls those "active door strikers." And would you believe - I rarely (if ever) hear of them breaking! People have slammed my doors for YEARS and those strikers never stop working.

Hard to believe this car cost $41,885 in 1994. That was a big chunk of change.

That's a lot for a car now but when adjusted for inflation, your car today would have cost $64,750!

OMG you have the original window sticker too? i still have mine for my TL neatly tucked away with the binder of receipts i have collected for almost everything that was ever done to the car.

wow...didnt realize the legend cost that much brand new (guess i never thought about it). my best friend growing up got hers as a hand me down from her parents. '91 legend 4dr in gold...too bad she beat the hell out of it when she took it to college. her younger sister ended up with a used black 4 dr legend when she went off to college...not sure what happened to that one.

Jeeze, that's even more than I would've guessed. Though I've seen new RL's as high as $57k-ish so I guess it's not too far off the mark. Plus I have to wonder if any original owners paid full MSRP for these cars.

Yeah definitely worth keeping! I have lots of other paperwork on the car, including the Pre-Delivery Inspection, all the books/manuals, the original dealership brochure, etc. I'm kind of nerdy about hanging onto that kind of stuff.

Yeah I do. Have had that since May 2008 but only put about 12,000 miles on it in 4 years. It currently has 143,000 on the odometer. Drives great!

My '97 TL (premium package) was $36,000 new. Considered to be a bargain at the time. The 2nd gen TL cost me almost $10,000 less.

Ridiculously good.

However I don't think that your new ILX will have as much presence/live up to the Legend. Although it is much better in person than on pics.

The 2G transmission was made in Japan. Tough to beat Japan-made build quality though.. those poor guys work like slaves. Tremendous work ethic.

Great job man. And beautiful car. I have never kept a car very long and watching and reading this makes me want to keep my car to see how long it goes. I don't personally think Acura makes them like they use too with your Legend, but they still make awesome cars. I would love to stay updated with your progress with the Legend and the ILX but not sure how I can without missing your posts!

Very impressive! Through all those miles you've never had to change a head gasket? These cars are typically famous for blowing head gaskets no matter how much you baby them. It's the Legend's achilles heel. I've changed mine twice, 80,000kms apart. My '91 coupe has 283,000 kms and still going strong otherwise. It's reassuring to know it can make it to 500,000 with regular maintenance.
