I still regret not buying a new GN in 1987 and instead buying a Mustang GT.. If I remember correctly the Mustang with taxes, tags etc was approx $16.5K or $17K out the door, it had a 5MT and even had the T-Tops which were rare at the time, Ford discontinued the T-Tops mid-way through 1988.
The GN would have cost aprrox $21K out the door, my dad co-signed the loan (I was 20 at the time) and told me that if I really wanted the GN I should give it a lot of thought because I would be paying approx $100 more per month. That was way more than I could afford at the time, but how I wish I could have bought it..
Don't get me wrong I really liked the GT and kept it 8 years before I reluctantly sold it. Bought my first home in 1994 and the money I rec'd from selling the GT helped me renovate the basement in that house...

Very cool story. It's amazing these kinds of "barn" finds still happen in 2017

Very cool but to me that sounds like a bit much for a GN.

Yeah, they are sweet rides.
I used to be a mechanic for a Pontiac dealer long time ago and had the opportunity to drive the 89 Turbo Trans Am with the same engine. It definitely drew attention and was a blast to drive!

Way back in the day it was Mustang “5.0” vs the GN/T-Type’s. The Mustangs were obviously less expensive to purchase/mod/maintain and WERE V8’s. I chose to go the 5.0 route many times over.... because I knew those cars in and out. Literally could pick ANY Mustang and throw an off road H-pipe, 2 chamber Flow’s, 3:55’s (for a 5spd) or 3:73’s (for an AOD) and make it a local street contender, if driven and tired properly.
I happened upon upon a lump sum of money and had an interested party for my Mustang. I found a 1987 Buick Regal T-Type with 1500 miles on it. The wheels had never been off of the car... it was literally brand new, sitting on someone’s lawn with a small “for sale” sign. I don’t recall what the price was, but fk if I don’t regret not buying that car.
Thinking back to all of the cars that I passed on that woudybe worth big money now makes me sick.
I had someone offer me a 1986 Mustang LX notchback, (5.0/5spd) and I passed it up. Nothing special about that car at all..... except the fact that I have never, ever seen another one since then.
Shoulda, coulda, woulda..... which is why I bought my Scatpack. Nothing “special” about it, but i wanted it and can afford it.
