Hey all.

It's been a while since I was really active here but lately I have been posting again.

I currently drive a 2013 Acura ILX with tech package.


Little background on why I want the change:
Too slow
Horrible value makes me not want to drive it
Too many small accidents by others makes the car feel wrong

I will be paying my deductible shortly to fix the damage to my front end thanks to the 3rd hit and run. I hate people.

What I am looking for is something a bit more refined with a lot more power. I don't want brand new. I am thinking I will go used this time. Maybe 2015. I have had my eyes pretty squarely on the RCF350. I am finding the 2015 RCF for around 40k. Let's say 40k is my limit. Also I am pretty sure I dont want to get into another Acura. Modding capabilities is a plus. RCF350 looks very promising.

Thoughts? Opinions? I'm shutting up now.

Im looking at the 2015 which has far less power and cheaper. Its like 150hp less and like 20-25k less than the 2017.

Im seeing a few about 30 miles from me less than 20k miles for 40k. Rc350 is about 37k.

Since you are considering the RC350 I am guessing you want a 2 door now.

You're jumping between RC-F and RC350. I'm not sure what you are referring to. The RC-F has a 5.0 V8 and is a top drawer grand touring car. The RC350 is more main stream but still a capable performer. They do come with the F-Sport package which makes them RC350 F-Sports.

Also consider the IS350, which is more or less the RC350 but with the extra doors.

Also the Infiniti Q50S has fallen significantly in the used car market, but to me is a great bang for the buck in the near luxury class.

The RC and RCF models haven't changed much at all since the 2015 model year. I would avoid the anemic RC200t and also avoid one without the F-Sport Package. To be honest, unlike most Lexus vehicles, the RC doesn't hold it's value well. The market for coupes is extremely small, even smaller with traditional sedan buyers moving into the CUV and SUV arena. I would find a CPO (L/Certified) RC which has an awesome 6-year unlimited-mileage warranty from the date of first use (DOFU) and a 2-year/20k-mile complimentary maintenance plan. I haven't heard of any issues with engines or transmissions, but some people have had issues with the Remote Touch Interface (RTI) in the Navigation-equipped vehicles that you use to control the screen - sometimes it won't recognize your input and the screen will reset by itself. The F and F-Sport vehicles come with soft tires that don't last long and the F-Sport brake pads dust extremely heavily.

My parents bought a Certified 2014 ES last year with only 3,020 miles. The date of first use was April 2014, so they have an unlimited mileage warranty through April 2020, along with the free services. It's pretty damn cool. People who travel a lot for work have been trading in their vehicles for a Lexus purely for the warranty. They'll get their money's worth out of it.

My only issue with the IS is i just dont like aome parts of the body. Namely the line the tails follow. The rc cleaned that up perfect for me but i mean i wouldnt let that stop me from a great deal.

Sorry to hear about the accidents. I'd want to get out, too. In addition to the Lexus and Infiniti mentioned above, here's another couple of reliable, refined used cars you should consider for less than $40k:

2G CTS-V sedan (2009-2014, currently $25-35k, drivetrain is dead reliable, cheeeeeeeap to mod, come in manual if you desire such, but automatic is great for the dragstrip)
Audi A4 (more reliable than many think)

If you get something CPO, you can expand your search to the BMW 3/4 series, which are fun to drive.

I know you want to get away from Acura, but an "out there" choice to try would be a TSX wagon. Yeah, it's slow, but it handles great, looks good, carries stuff and has a little modding potential.

May I ask why you suggest the BMW if it is CPO? Should I not trust them otherwise?

A4 is definitely in the running. Also I will have to research the CTS-V. Thank you for the input.

TSX Wagon would be a good choice, would've been awesome if they'd offered it with a 6MT.

Because the maintenance costs are higher than average. I bought my 335i as a CPO with about 36k miles on it. It now has 129k and is out of warranty. The post-warranty repairs have been expensive but not deal-breakers for me. That being said, when it was under the CPO warranty having everything covered helped the cost of ownership in the long run.

I just got into a 2016 RC300 F-Sport about 4 months ago (coming from a 2010 TL). I have been in Acuras for the past 12 years, and making the move the Lexus (especially the RC) was the best decision I have made. The RC is amazing!!! I was between the RC and the BMW 440 coupe, but as much as I loved the BMW, I just could not turn down the deal that Lexus gave me. I managed to get a 3-year lease (15,000 miles a year) for less than $400 a month. The RC is not the fastest coupe off the line at that price point, but when you get it on windy back roads, it is a blast!! I get compliments everywhere I go since it is rare to see them on the roads.

If you think about going with the used A4, go with a manual. Audi just switched over to the DCT from a CVT in the 2017 model year.

I didn't realize they'd plummeted in value so much. Clean CPO in Spring with 30k on it for $34k. Not bad for what looks like a nice luxo-barge.

You might want to have a look at the 2018 Accord, to be unveiled in a few days .

Yeah, I looked up the K900 and Equuuuuuus and was a little surprised myself. The dumb-irrational part of my brain (the majority part) started thinking about that. I like what Hyundai/Kia have been doing from a design language lately, but I'm still not sure I'm ready to jump in and own one for a long time.

But the Eggguus is close to stupid cheap status for what it is. Might make for a good beater/kids first car.

I was thinking the same thing... don't become car poor. Don't finance a car for 96 months, regardless the rates on it. In five years you'll be like "fuuuu I want something else" and still owe a shit ton of cash on the car. Cars are such a nice and easy way to work your debt level up.

I realize you might be passionate about cars, but keep it within realm. Buy a house first. Establish yourself. Get your lines of money straight. Then start looking at nice cars. While it sucks the ILX got bumped yet again, it pretty much comes with having a daily driver. There's way too many idiots out there. Plus, who's to say the RC350 won't get fucked up, too. Then you have an even more expensive car that you'll be pissed off to drive, and getting rid of it becomes that much harder when you owe lots and pay little every month. The car traps you, unless you're willing to take a big hit.

plus, nice cars will always be around. The more you hold back now, the more you'll be able to afford later. I'm not saying wait until you're 60, but shit, even at 35 you'll be able to afford something even better than you can now, likely with less stress too.

I dunno. Personally, I'd just keep rocking the ILX. It looks good and you've built it the way you like. The other shitty thing with pricey cars is that mods are equally pricey as well.

Had i known 12 years ago, what I know now, I would've bought a house 5 years sooner and held off the car stuff a bit longer.
