Help me figure out why/how this happened with D2S - Picture

While driving, I saw one of my light go waaay bright, then dim, then bright again, and completely off. I arrived home and took my D2S out and saw this.

Does anyone know why or how this can happen? Is it freak of nature?

It could be that the xenon gas had an escape hole and it shorted, or the bulb had a fault in manufacturing that took time to manifest. Either way, something shorted and you need to spend $100 - 200 for new bulbs.

You didnt twist the ignitor (bulb holder) all the way on hence the contact area between the terminal in the ignitor wasnt properly patched onto the metal ring on the bulb. Over time the terminal just melted the plastic it was touching. You are lucky as it didint burn all the way causing damage to the whole headlight/car.

Clean it up and put it back in and you should be good.

Our preferred vendors sell quality HID bulbs for way less than that.
