Help me choose a new car

Well, approximately two weeks ago the rear-end of my Si let loose around a corner in the cold weather and I slammed the wall on the freeway onramp a couple times. Yesterday I received an initial estimate of $11,000 of damage without a tear down. I'll find out the final word if it totaled on Wednesday morning. I'm all over the board when it comes to a new car. I live in Seattle, I put about 20k/year on my cars, my wife has a tacoma, and I would prefer something with more than two seats. Here is what I am thinking so far:

2008 VW R32
Another Si
4runner
G35 Sedan

I would consider a new STI or EVO, but I'm thinking that after this accident my insurance will probably be terrible on these two cars. The R32 is the same rate as my Si. Thanks for the help everyone, Happy New Year, and I know that this is ultimately my own decision.

I say go with the G35. You keep the same amount of fun, gain two extra seats and ride in style and comfort

Since you are in the Northwest, I would get G35x sedan (all wheel drive) or R32. Best of luck!!

You didn't learn your lesson?

Your FWD Si let it's rear end loose? Just how fast were you going that you managed to do that?

TSX with a 6M- it'll probably have the lowest insurance cost and is a decent driver.

Otherwise a G35, which will be more expensive to buy and fill/drive.

I was going about 50 mph on a freeway on ramp with a right hand turn. It was about 38 degrees out and dry, but I just left my friend's house and I was rolling on Michelin PS2s. From what I have read, those tires are like driving on grease once the temperature drops below 40. Stupid on my part, I should have known.

I'm talking new cars. Well, here is today's update. Early this morning I received a call from the insurance company telling me that they are totaling the car. I then called the body shop and they confirmed that the car will be totaled. I wanted confirmation because financing specials through VW, Honda, and Toyota all ended today. I then received another call from the insurance agent this afternoon. Apparently they ran additional comps so they could pay me off for the car, and they are now saying that my 2006 Si no navi, no fogs, with 35k is worth $23,000! MSRP on the car was $19,990 and I paid $21,300. Because of such a high value the car is no longer being totaled and it will instead be repaired. Long story short, an independent appraiser is going to the body shop in the morning to prepare a new estimate and also an appraisal of the car. Ridiculous!

Why anyone besides a VW fanboi would buy an AWD compact putting out 250hp for $33k+ is beyond me.

Youve got quite a list of cars there - what are your needs?

Id definitely argue with insurance. How much are they estimating the costs to be?

This isn't the same Saki GT that is over at S2ki, is it?

I second Is300eaters comment: G35 (new body style)>R32>G35 (Old Body Style)

The costs from the body shop are $11,000 and they told me that was 75% of value = approximately $14,750. That is over $8,000 in price variance. When they told me it was total I was going to accept it, and then fight to get around $17,000 for it. I expected them to add in tax, any possible additional expenses, and rental car expense to get $17,000. I'll let everyone know what the independent says when I find out. This is going on 2.5 weeks just to determine whether or not it is a total. I can't imagine how long it will take to repair.

Thanks for the constructive criticism! Just to let you know I have never had any other accident and I have never even had a ticket. I was entering on a freeway on ramp at 50 mph and it was in my mind a fluke accident. I'm sure you are a perfect driver. Thanks again for the input.

If you liked your Si so much, why not get another?

Whatever car you decide on buying ... be sure to pair them up with good tires. Tires are sometimes better than any insurance policy can buy.

If you do indeed have to get anther car, the new G35x sedans are really nice... or why not a TL/TSX?

Yeah, I think I am going to have to start running two differnt sets of tires. The reason I picked up the PS2s was for corning ability and also enhanced responsiveness in lane changes, etc.

I'd go with a GTI with DSG. Even comes in a 5 door.
