you can find mirror mounts on eBay... they're also all over the internet... I would think that's one of the more common places to mount especially if you're hardwired...

I don't like those mounts. They sit the RD too far in from the windshield. I have mine suctioned to the windshield just below the mirror, The back end of the RD touches the windshield.
In mounting you want the RD as high & as far forward as you can get it with a direct view of the front & rear of the road.
Mine is hardwired using a basic 2 wire phone cord spliced into the power mirror fuse in my fuse box & the other wire to ground.

Mine's set up at the top of the windshield, just to the right of the mirror.
Then a remote display (V1) is mounted on top of the steering column.
This way, nobody sees a radar detector and decides to play follow-the-leader. Plus when I get pulled over, I can quickly dismount the remote display and cops can't see that I'm a habitual speeder by noticing the V1 (very hard to see unless you are inside the car).
Wires are run along the headliner, then down the driver side A-pillar, into the fusebox. Remote display hub is nestled into the fusebox area, as well.
I used to have some pictures of the setup, but I have no idea where they are now. Sorry.

I have the Bel 975 LR Remote, which is slightly different than the V1 and other winshield mounted units. I mounted the controller near the steering coloumn and the sensor is mounted behind the grille.

Thanks.
Also, those of you that have radars, whether hardwired or not, do you normally take them down when you are out and park? Are radar's as big of a target for snatchers as much as GPS's are?
Thanks.

Mine was located similar to Picus' setup... except it was down and to the right. I had a V1, and it was setup so that only the rear facing sensor peeked out from behind the mirror.
That coupled with the remote display made it so that pretty much no one knew I had a detector.

Juniorbean, I thought you might know the answer to this.
My preferred location for the radar would be right about what picus has his set up, but I've heard the argument that you shouldn't put the radar in the top most area of the windshield where it has the tint. Is that a valid argument?

That is why I did not mount it exactly as Picus did, but lower and slightly to the right, with the rear sensor peeking out from the mirror. Mounting it here put it below the tint line and ensured I was not inhibiting the performance of the detector...

Auto trans because I like it. Well, that and I spend most of my time in traffic, so I wanted an auto (this is my first one). I miss the manual sometimes but it's a good auto so I am cool with it.

my 8500x50 is mounted very similar to how junior bean described
to the right of the mirror just slightly and as high as possible before hitting windshield tint.
you cant see it from outside the car and can barely even see it when inside unless you know where it is or its on.
i always take mine down when i street park in seattle. if im not in the city though i usually just leave it up out of laziness.
i still want to hardwire it w/a remote display. does anyone know if the 8500x50 remote display will fit in the "not an ashtray" on a 2nd gen?
