Looks nice, but it doesn't even compare to the 2013.

The shelbys look mean. And the engines...

For as HUGE of a challenger fan as I am...I have always admitted the v8s in the stangs sound the best...and a shelby with an exhaust is an instant orgasm.

I agree the 013 looks meaner. It was probably the most powerful car I've ever sat in though.

If it was me, I'd be in an R8... but out of the two you listed, I'd go GT500...
I have the Cobb accessport with transmission controls for my GT_R. You can really do alot with it. I can load the newer launch controls on to my car. Pretty soon they will have the abililty to brake boost (huge in the gt-r community) . I made 500 whp on Hennessey's dyno at TX2K12.

If you traded in a GTR for a Mustang that would be a fail in my book

If you want a Mustang that bad then get a Super Snake or something a little more unique.

Ur not interested in any other cars?

Also I'm guessing ur gonna buy the gt500 new? I'd recommend buying them used. U wont lose much much money when switching cars
Still about 2 years from being able to go really exotic. I like the R8 but i'd have to go V10. It's not like I can really just march on down to the Ford dealer right now and buy a new GT500. They are pretty limited right now. Those who have them are trying to get over MSRP. I may wait till the winter time and see if I can pick up one used. By that time I may be in the position to keep them both (at least for a little while) I thought about going hog wild on the GT-R (Alpha 10 or so) but shit, that costs as much as a whole GT500. And that's money that you never get back on those big builds. Hard to justify that I spent as much on my already fast car (to most peeps LOL) just to make it faster, than the whole damn car costs.

Maybe the next round of small mods and some ADV.1's will cure the itch for a bit?

I am going to a GT-R meet in Palm Beach in July. I am supposed to get a ride in Tim Sanders previous world record holding Alpha 12+. 1000 WHP on pump gas! May change directions completely after that ride!

I'd keep the GTR.

Also, this thread helped me realize that I am not the only one that changes cars often!

Maybe against last years GT500 but the new one would probably destroy it.

A white ZL1 is sexy as hell though.

JB you're like a brother from another mother LOL. I spent about 20 minutes behind the wheel of my boy's GTR. I respect the heritage, the performance, etc. but the experience was somewhat sterile and as an avid PS3 user, driving the GTR was like playing a video game. HP and straightline speed can only take one so far IMHO and as I've gotten older how a car handles has become more important. While the GTR has road presence, I would say it's far from beautiful.

OP I'd look at a used 911 GT3, Turbo or Turbo S, V10 R8. Moving to a 991S is more a lateral move. The new R8 should be dropping soon which will drive down the prices of used R8s. Of course at that price point, you could spend a little more and get a Challenge Stradale.

This is probably old news to you achenator, but I think this video does a very good job of differentiating the two cars:

Note: That's a 2011 GT500 and 2012 GT-R, but you get the idea.

IMO, if you're looking for something with neck snapping torque and crazy tail happy antics, then the GT500 is the perfect car for the job. If you're looking for something that can be both driven daily and tracked, then stay with the GT-R.

Regardless, I'm sure you'll enjoy whatever car you end up with or stay with!

Honestly, I wouldn't trade the GT-R for anything NOT made in Stuttgart, Maranello, Gaydon or Bologna.

3,900 lbs
yet,
0-60 mph in 2.9 seconds
60-0mph in 101 feet
lateral accel 1.05g

hmmm....seems like a trade from the 10 to the 12 GT-R may be the real move.

But I will say that the Stang has the sweetest exhaust note of any current production car and in general has no equal in the pony car segment.

If someone gave me $60,000 and said buy a fun car, I'd get a 2008 Viper SRT-10.

My Gt-R has 500 WHP and the LC4 launch control from the 2012. It's 99% of the 2012. There are a few smaller updates I don't have. That being said there is a beautiful pearl white 2013 black edition a few miles from here in a dealer's showroom.

I would stay in the GT-R:

Its great resale is as good of a reason to keep it as it is to sell it. The GT500's resale is unproven at best.

You said you're only a few years away from something really exotic. If I were you, I'd throw a little more money at the GT-R to hold you for those years, then make the huge jump.

To be honest, I'm not that big of a fan of the GT500. I think the '13 Mustang's rear end isn't as good looking, and early reports say the GT500 is stiff as heck. I'd take a ZL1, even with the power difference.

Nope, probably just a straight line. I havent read the comparo yet, but the ZL1 DID win and its probably because it can easily out handle the gt500.

But I'm with the others that say step up, not stay in the same area or take a step down.

Getting the GT500 will get you a lot of power, but having the GTR is more exotic than it. It catches more people's eye and can probably grip like no other compared to the gt500.

Then there's also your money will take a hit with the gt500 cause the GTR is not going down in value anytime soon, Ford cars well they dont hold up so well...

Lastly move up!!! Save more money cause this car isnt depreciating much. And then upgrade to one of the cars surfer rick pointed out. I vote 911 GT3!!

As much as I like Mustangs, the GT500 just strikes me as a car for a rich Bubba.

Stay with the GT-R for now.
