Most supercar owners baby their cars. They keep the miles low and the car will rarely see daylight unless it's bright and sunny. That is, unless you're the Petersons.

You see, about six months ago Eric and Amity Peterson created Dream Drives for Kids in Portland, Oregon. A “volunteer organization that is dedicated to brightening the lives of sick children by providing rides in exotic sports cars."

The Petersons have been fortunate with a successful technology consulting firm and are passionate about cars. Naturally this led them to acquire a car collection most kids dream about. The Petersons wanted to give back and make a difference, and that's how Dream Drives for Kids was born.

The idea is simple: Help local kids fighting off life-threatening diseases like leukemia, cystic fibrosis, and heart disease get their mind off being sick by giving them a dream drive in a supercar.

But it's not just a ride in a supercar, it's much more than that. The Petersons have made it an entire experience that will give families a memory for a lifetime. Families can call the Petersons and tell them which vehicle in their car collection is their child's favorite. They'll meet up, Eric will tell the child all about the car, take the child for a ride in the car for about 30 minutes, and the entire event is caught on video along with photos. The families get a copy of the video and all the photos to remind the child through the hard times that there's more to life than just seeing doctors and being in a hospital.

So what cars make the roster for families to choose from? It's quite a list: 1965 A.C. Cobra (Superformance replica), 1969 Porsche 912, 1979 Porsche 911 (930) Turbo, 2006 Ferrari F430 F1 Spider, 2007 Ferrari 599 GTB Fiorano, 2008 Porsche 911 GT3 RS, 2013 McLaren MP4-12C Spider, 2014 BMW M4, 2015 Porsche 911 (991) Turbo S, and a 2015 BMW i8.

We asked Eric how this all came about. He told us, "We created a way to use our car collection for something unique ... and it lets us be more active with the cars."

The Petersons are already working with local hospitals in Portland, Oregon to team up and possibly do one dream drive per week.

In just a matter of weeks since going public other exotic car owners have already offered their own cars for Dream Drives for Kids to help Eric and Amity grow faster.

But what about the future? One dream drive per week might sound like a lot, but Eric and Amity already have bigger plans. Their vision is to eventually help like-minded collectors around the country set up their own Dream Drives for Kids chapters.

In a world full of what seems like bad news on top of more bad news daily, it's refreshing to meet a couple that have been fortunate and want to make a difference in sick kid's lives. The world could use more people like Eric and Amity Peterson.
