Got a GS300 Loaner *My thoughts VS my TL*

Well my front right brake caliper decided to take a dump, so I took it to my buddies' shop and stupid acura sent him 2 front right calipers. Being a good friend of mine he loaned me his 2000 GS300. *Bling Bling*

Things I noticed and like:

GS rides like a dream on 20's. It rides better than my TL on 18s.
GS is heck of alot quieter than my TL (road noise wise)
Acceleration is smooth and gradual. Not jerky like when VTEC kicks in.
The doors shut very solid.
This GS has 118K miles and its better built than my TL with 80K hands down.
Nakamichi Stereo blows the OEM Blose system anyday.
Auto Windows on all 4 windows.
Seats are better than my Sparco's or my OEM haha.
Memory seating (mine is a 99 so none of that for me)

Downsides.

Tan interior.
Not used to the Sunroof switch being at the top.
Mushy Brakes

Well this car is growing on me. Unfortunately I cant afford one of them now going to school and all. But after I graduate I may be looking for the newer GS. I love this car.
I will probably have the TL for another year or so..

Dont forget that the (stock) GS handling is poor..the cost is almost twice that of the TL..and you don't get the adrenaline as when the Vtec kicks in. The TL is a Sports (stylish..unless if its a TL-S)Luxury Sedan...GS is just a luxury sedan. Get it right. You should really compare the GS with the E-Class, and the BMW 5 series. If you want to compare Lexus with Acura...compare it with the ES, and IS. With the same price range. The Bose System is one of the best Factory sound system in the market..if you want better...spend another 2g on sound, and it will still cost less than your GS.

nice little review there benzo~

But remember thats a semi tricked-out gs300 you are driving there... a stock gs wouldn't ride as sweet as it does now on 20s. Plus i'm sure those tires are of better quality than the oem's.
Just a thought, that's all.

my take on it

the lexus gs300 is a better can than the gen 2 tl. but in our defense, it is also more expensive and guzzles more gas too. the softer ride and quieter interior and way comfier seats contribute to the higher price tag and the car weighs hundreds of pounds more.

my previous car i owned for 2 years was a gs300. as such, i can state that the gs300 is a more refined car. not to take anything away from the tl, because it is a very sporty car, but not as luxurious as the lexo.

both are great.

also rear wheel drive

makes it fun to drive. but no ss mode in defense of our cars. if my gs300 was ss, i might have kept it and sold the wifes es300 instead.

oh well, im loving the tl and its navi system.

peace

my sis-in-law has a gs300 and comparing it to my TL-S, i prefer the TL-S. Although it may ride a little louder and whatnot, the performance is way better than the GS.

very true, my parents have a new Avalon, which is basically the GS300. and the ride is deffinately softer. After I drive mine 500 miles home to Houston then get in their car to go out to dinner, my ass thanks me!

There are pros and cons to each car, personally I know I dont feel like Im driving a real old person car with the TL, but the Lexus ES or GS, just seem to be all old people cars...who really knows though.

I drove both a GS and '04 TL at the lexus driving thingee, and when pushed, you can really feel the limits of the FWD in the TL. But it's really unfair to compare the TL to the GS because the GS costs so much more. You could easily plop in the extra $10K+ into a TLS and get performance and luxury that would whoop the stock GS. A better comparison would be with the new RL and its SH-AWD system.

I went from the 2nd gen TL(99) to a GS (01). It's the world of a difference between the two. Stock for stock, the GS definately outperforms the TL with no question(in the handling department). I do have a set of 17's in place of the stock 16's, which made a very slight difference in handling. I love everything about the GS over the TL with one exception: as smooth as the engine is, it just doesn't have enough juice. The V8 would make the big difference, but with big power, there's big money. Because of my ownership of the GS, it's pushing me away from the 05 TL when my lease is up (end of the month). The TL is like a diamond in the rough. It's not polished enough for me to truly enjoy it.

A GS can be had for the high 30k range. The RL can be had for 50k. Speaking of which, I just got back from driving an RL. It's nice! I just can't see myself spending 50k for it. I'd wait a bit before even considering it..
