Got a 2017 Ford Fusion Sport
 

I had 5 months and 400 miles left on my 2015 Explorer Sport lease, so I traded it in for this 2017 Ford Fusion Sport. I was planning to buy out my Explorer, but I had too many issues with it and was worried about things coming back to bite me, since the bumper to bumper was almost up (axle seal at PTU twice/ both front wheel bearings/ etc).

Waiting to here from Livernois Motorsports about moving my tuner over to it from the Explorer. Here's a few pictures of my new ride. 2.7L twin turbo Ecoboost/ Magnetic Grey/ sunroof/ 401A option package with SYNC 3 and Nav/19" wheels/ leather with Miko suede seats (heated & cooled front)/ LED head, tail, turn, & fog lights. Got about $4500 off sticker.

What do you guys think?

Nice, I checked one out while waiting for tires on the wife's Flex. The seats could use a bit more bolstering, but it was comfortable. It was in the showroom, so no test drive....
Love the 2.7EB in my truck, can imagine it in a lighter car will be quick. Interested to see the results after some LMS love.

What issues did you have with the explorer? I thought they were pretty solid.

It was in 1968. My wife's car since 1986 which she got from her dad who bought it in 1975.

Items that were replaced/ fixed:

RF leaking brake caliper.
RF axle seal twice. (not sure if PTU had run low on what little oil it uses to begin with)
RF axle and spindle.
Both front wheel bearings.
Re-align the drive shaft shackle bearing.
Media reprogramming.
Driver door and sunroof shade squeaking when opening and closing.
Paint blistering on the aluminum hood.

All this stuff was fixed and the paint was approved to be fixed, but worry about some of these issues coming back after the warranty is up and I have to pay for the repairs.

I agree on the seats. The seats could use more cushion too, they are a little hard.

although none of these repairs were major that is a lot of problems for such a new vehicle.

Thanks Guys! Yeah, it had most of what I was looking for... AWD, power, manual mode with the paddle shifters (they should have made them beefier though), nice media unit, etc. at a decent price. Gotta love Livernois! I call them and they give me an RMA, tell me to read the strategy code off the new car with the tuner, fill out a return form, and ship back to them. They will ship me back a tuner with 87, 91, and 93 octane Stage 2 tunes for the Fusion. My cost... shipping! They have a 160 thermostat available too that I'll get. I'll wait until I pass 1000 miles before I tune it.

We really liked the ExSport and wanted to keep it. But the risk of issues in the future is too great with all the issues we had just within the first 36000 miles. My main concern is the PTU with that one leaking twice already.

Looks like a very nice car; it's just missing the third pedal under the dash. :tomato:

Ha ha... I was thinking of getting a 6 speed car, but decided for a daily driver I didn't want to deal with it. Though I may have gotten the manual if they offered it on this one.

I have a 6 speed in my vette for when I want to drive a manual.

Sweet new ride, ive been contemplating the Fusion sport for a new work vehicle. I really like the look of the Fusion but always hated that it didnt have a V6 EcoBoost and now that it does im very curious/tempted. Is that the Magnetic color? Looks nice.

Thats too bad. I have had Zero issue with mine. I have had it a year and a half and put over 65k miles on it and the most i can say it needs repaired are the brakes are starting to get a little warped (doesnt help that they get abused by me every time i drive it and from towing 5k lbs ski boat )

Congrats, I always thought the Fusion, especially the Sport models were good looking cars.. I sat in the same one several months back at MapleCreast Ford while waiting for service, that color in person looks awesome..

Yeah, it's Magnetic Grey with the Tarnished Dark 19" wheels. I thought about the blue, but this color combo looks great, especially in person.
Also, I was hitting 20.1 mpg tops on my 40 mile drive to work when driving really easy in the Explorer Sport.
This is from yesterdays drive into work with getting on it a little, but mostly easy driving, not even broke in yet.

How's the power compare to the ExSport?
Looking forward to a LMS review on the FFS.

Couple nearby dealers have them in stock. Need to get by to take a spin.

Compared to my ExSport, stock for stock, the FFS is faster and pulls harder. The FFS stock will do about a 5.3 0-60 and 13.8 quarter. With a Stage 2 93 octane tune Livernois said guys are running close to 13 flat and dipping into the 12's with race gas. I'm guessing 0-60 will be close to 4.5 sec.

Ugh yeah. With that much issues at 36k miles....best to get rid of it. Could've been a lemon-esque car. I'd hope not many are that unreliable

Wow, co-worker & I were talking about the FFS yesterday & were guestimating on the 0-60 with a tune. I was guessing 5 flat or high 4s. Mid 4s would be awesome for what doesn't have the appearance of that type of speed.

Congrats OP, I really like the latest gen fusions, ESPECIALLY the sport models!

This always dissapoints me with the fusion sport, AWD, two turbos, 380lb/ft and still 5.3 0-60? That's really not much better than the naturally aspirated TLX with over 100 less lb/ft. I think the weakest link in the current ford drivetrain setups is the 6 speed auto.

BTW, NJ insurance sucks! I can't believe that the FFS cost more to insure than my XSport which is bigger, an SUV, larger twin turbo engine and cost about $10,000 more. WTF???

Might have something to do with the way the vehicles are expected to be driven and not always about basic cost. They probably (and rightly I'd say) assume that you are going to drive the FFS harder than the FES.

I drive "spirited" no matter what I drive, but no incidents with a clean record.

I think you misunderstood what I meant. I don't mean it's because YOU specifically will drive the FFS more aggressively. I meant that the insurance companies expect the FFS to be driven aggressively by anyone who buys it and therefore the rates go up. The same reason young men even with no accidents pay more for insurance vs woman.

Yeah, but just seems too much to me. For example, one of the guys I work with that is a few years younger than me, has the same insurance company as me, he has better coverage on his 2008 JEEP SRT8 and his cost is half of what I'm paying. He said his 17 year old son who just totaled his car is paying $100 more a year than me under his coverage. My 2008 Infiniti M35X does have a lower deductible, but costs about $400 more than his Jeep to insure.

Yeah, might be time to shop around.

Where you live is also a huge factor into how much you pay for insurance. Mine, for the three cars listed below, is ~$650/6mo full coverage for all.
