Good road cars for under $20K...
Hey all.
I'm thinking of trying to get myself a nice little road car in the next year or so, and was wondering on opinions here.
If you went and bought a DRIVERS road car, what would you look at?
Necessities - 1) Under $15-20K for the base car, 2) some ability to upgrade, bolt on, etc. 3) Manual only, 4) it must be a driver's car - the only luxury I really would require is AC due to the heat here, but I care of nothing else. This will be a weekend "dear god don't let me lose my license" car.
Thanks, everyone

I have been doing a lot of thinking about it too and I've been looking at:
Mid-80s 911s
Audi TTs
BMW Z4s
BMW M3s (E36 and E46)
S2000s
Audi B6 A4 Ultrasports
At the end of the day, I think I'm going to get a TT. Yes, I realize that it's going to require that I change my name to Louise and become a hairdresser but I really like the way they look and an APR Stage 1 TT has 270hp and AWD.
They range from $13-16k for well maintained versions (2002-2004).
I'm still considering a coupe or convertible but I'm definitely going 6MT Quattro.
Hope that helps.

I know he said driver's car and the TT probably isn't many first choices.
There's just so few cars under $16k that are worth a shit.
If the OP is willing to go a bit higher I think he could find a current gen MX-5 Grand Touring for $16k.
That said, if he's serious and narrows it down to a car he wants, I'd contact Shoofin'

Someday, an RS6 Avant+
I like the E36/E46 suggestion. There's a good market for upgrades and those are drivers cars first.

'10 Hyundai Genesis Coupe
Slightly used Genesis Coupe 2.0T, it has the Evo motor and people have been able to get it up to 320whp worry free.
With minor bolt-ons and a tune, 250whp is readily achieveable.
