Gone very far to the Dark Side - Cobra Kit
Sample Hot Lap: We got up to 135mph before a 90* left, very interesting.

Our instructor runs the school & has raced at LeMans 24, Daytona 24 & Sebring 12 for BMW. Also had him the last time I went with my daughter. The entire staff has raced professionally & they really encourage you to push the cars as far as you can.
After lunch they threw in a few laps of the off road course in X-5's before we went home. Usually after the afternoon session they do a factory tour, they build all the worlds X-x there, but they are in change over for the new model so we got a rain check & extra track time.
Its really worth the drive or flight if the opportunity ever comes up.

I put the 435's diffuser & black chrome tips on this morning so the 435 is done, back to the Cobra. Will start on the ECU & other control electronics install, not my favorite thing.

Taking the body down to Whitby's this week to get it painted. Expect it will disappear for a few months.
One good thing is they have their own chassis to do the mockup & fitting on so I can continue to work on mine. If the timing is good the body will be done about the time the chassis is finished.
Then its trimming & final detailing.

Took the body to Whitby's on Thursday for painting. Finished all the back end wiring & plumbing. Installed hand brake package. With the plumbing & wiring done will put in upper trunk floor & cockpit rear panels this weekend.

Best was brought the engine & trans together for final install this week.

You might find this of interest especially the instrumented ride along.

Somemore progress today. Put in the driver & passenger floor panels & the transmission console. Quite a bit of trimming to get the panel around the handbrake pull.

Also added the small console I built for extra switches, vent pulls, radio & a speaker set. The top of the main console & the total small console will be padded & covered to match the dashboard. Also was able to get additional switch bezels to match the ones I used on the dash for the lower console. They are from a '67 Bronco.

Speakers will also be going into the two panels that sit under the doors. Car is loud so trying to keep all the music upfront. My grandson want a big sub in the back wall of the cockpit.

Trying to keep it no pressure so it stays fun & does not turn into a job. "How do you eat an elephant? Take a lot of small bites"
Body is being done concurrently so that will cut the total elapsed time down. Expect to have it to what the guys call a "go-cart" some time in August. A go-cart is a fully drivable un-bodied car.
The car is built on a modern racing space frame with some parts, 4" tubes, that look like a Cobra's original frame. Body is a stand alone composite who's function is to keep the wind out & look nice. It carries no structural load & the only things bolted to it are the lights everything else including the hood, trunk lid, doors & windshield bolt directly to the space frame..

About 400-410WHP (470BHP @ 15% loss). Tires are the limiting factor. Current are drag radials on all 4 wheels, did not want to go to full track tires, to dangerous on the street.

I know the 3G Type S 6MT looses about 12-15%
and 400+WHP is gonna be insane at that weight...remember to feather the throttle....man, I so wanna build one of these now
^^^^
Expect you are correct on the drivetrain loss. Just the water pump & alternator are driven off the engine + the exhaust system is pretty much non existent. Think the inline straight through mufflers are a bit over a foot long.

they look sooo awesome...the headers into the straight through mufflers...
a local exhaust shop took it to the next level and had a 4-2-1 transition instead of a 4-1 transition...am sure at that point (sure long headers) and barely 2-3 feet* of exhaust piping post the merge, it wont make much of a difference but well, not sure if that motor was boosted....

I'm definitely looking forward to the final product, it's loooking great so far!
