x 2 on the Focus SVT (I was going the economical route with the Focus SE, but the SVT would be the enthusiast choice for sure)
I'm assuming you're shopping Audi and Acura to impress 1) girls 2) friends, but keep in mind that you won't be scoring too many points when you're taking your lady home and your car decides to die on the freeway.
We're not trying to be a-holes or tell you you're wrong, just know many of us have "been there, done that" and going the high-mileage luxury route for $6000 - $7500 will cost you much more time and money than you'll be willing to pay.

I know exactly where you're coming from, man. When I was 9 years old, I fell in love with the 1996 Range Rover 4.6 HSE which at the time was a brand new car.
Well, in 2007, I found a '97 in black with only 47,000 miles on it. The guy who owned it was selling it because his wife wanted a newer one for their baby and I said to myself, "I have to have that car." I offered him $11,000 which was two grand under what KBB said it was worth and my dad agreed to help me buy it. I made plans to head down to Chino Hills, California to pick the car up and drive it home. Right as I thought I would FINALLY have my very first dream car, the owner backed out. This was right as the economy began to get ugly and he told me that his wife no longer wanted the new car.
At the time, I was understandably very disappointed but in the long run, it saved me from an extremely toxic relationship with that car. While the owner had replaced a ton of problem items on it, there's no telling what it might have done to me. Not to mention that I would have been paying my dad for it in $250 a month payments along with insurance and filling that huge gas tank all the while getting around 12.5 mpg. I lost my job in January of '09 and have been out of work since. I would have lived my dream for about six months to a year. My dad told me that if I was unable to make the payments, he would sell it.
There is a time and a place for your dream car and trust me, buddy....now is not that time. They will always be out there and it's best to wait until you can afford the dream rather than rush into it and regret it for the rest of your life.

Reliability, gas mileage are key.
First go to your insurance agent and get the rates for the cars in question. That may help you narrow it down as well...

Alright guys, I've been looking at a 2004 Mazda 6, the car looks and drives great. It does have 85,000 miles, but I assume for a Mazda that's not too bad. I've always liked the 6 more than the 3, it just looks more sporting in my mind. The car has the 4 cylinder engine, which would be good as far as gas mileage goes.
As far as insurance goes, the most expensive was an additional $50 a month to my moms insurance policy, that being the V8 Audi. I did finally test drive one yesterday, the car drove nice and had a lot of power but I am definitely considering looking for something more reliable. I am also trying to find a 2003+ Accord coupe in our price range, I've always loved the looks of that car. I'll keep you guys update, and I appreciate your advice even if it may not be what I want to hear, it's been a big help.

Dude, if you can find a 2003+ Accord coupe in your price range, nab it asap. Be careful with sellers hiding a "salvage" title...dealers have to divulge a "salvage" title, but (at least here in CA) private sellers do not. As you did previously, use CARFAX as your weapon.
GL and keep us updated...

So if you aren't able to locate the car of your dreams and are in need of a car, may I suggest the 4 cyl Honda Accord...I have both the 4 cyl Accord and a TL-S. The Accord has been very reliable with just a couple of repairs.

Nothing yet. We're going to look at two cars tomorrow and another Sunday. Tomorrow we'll be looking at a 2003 Audi A6 4.2 (I know, I know...) with 57,000 miles, as well as a 2006 Mazda 6 s (the hatchback model) with 80,000 miles. Sunday I think I'll be going to look at a 2003 Acura CL-S6, someone has one with 87,000 miles for sale nearby, it's red, which would be my second choice after ABP.

Unless the Audi has some warranty, just look. I say the Mazda is a better choice, or the CL. But the CL is a 7 year old car.
Good luck.
Good luck.

That 6 looks good. Nice place to start if the car is in really good condition.

how handsome I am
Seriously, thank your lucky stars you didnt pick any of those.
When I saw 2002 TL-S, I almost died. That car has one of the dumb-shittiest transmissions in the history of transmissions.

I had a 06 Mazda 6s and it was shit. I think I got a lemon though. Bought with 33K miles on it, sold with 35K 4 months later after being in the dealership 5 times. I didn't want to deal with it.
I know others that have had good luck with them

I know you like the Mazda 6, but another couple of options that surprisingly I don't recall being mentioned are the 2001 Integra and the 2002 RSX (both in the $6000 - 7500 range, especially if you drive 5sp).
Food for thought in case you haven't made up your mind...

Sorry but because of the crowd who generally drives these cars I would never own one. I hate the ricer crowd and the "I totally whopped a (insert car with 3X as much horsepower)" crowd. The idiots who own RSX's have made it abundantly clear that they're stupid, and I don't want to be a part of that crowd.

For the record, we've been trying to get the dealership with the red Mazda6 to let us take it to a Mazda dealership for a PPI, so far they've been less than accommodating. We'll see where that goes.
For whatever reason I decided that I was going to keep track of which Frontier planes I've been on since they started getting their Airbus fleet. It seemed like a cool idea because every one of their planes has a different animal on the tail, and since then I've expanded it to every Airbus A320 family plane I've been on. So far I have Frontier, Air Canada, Air France, and US Airways.
