German cars set off my radar detector??

Bought a simple Cobra 14 band radar detector a few months ago and I've noticed that a LOT of BMW's, Audi's and Porsches seem to trigger a full blast K or Ka alert as I pass them on the road. As soon as I get by then it goes quiet. At first I thought it might have been due to the radar based cruise control but AFAIK the lower models like the Audi A5 dont even come with that??

Any ideas why this is happening?? It's ONLY been those 3 German brands...nothing else

yeah basically

ive noticed that if the alert goes over a 2 (out of 5) its usually because of another car....if it blips at a 1 or 2 on K or Ka then i just ease up and look around for a cop real quick

A5 is a "lower" model? First I've heard of that. It's no A8, but it's no A3 either. And yes, the A5 does offer Adaptive Cruise Control.

But yeah, sounds like some technology is tripping you up...

lol i mean its a more mainstream affordable car vs say an s5 or an a8 yeah

and i figured the adaptive cruise would cause an issue if the car was behind me not in front of me

the blind spot system makes perfect sense tho im still curious why only those 3 brands are an issue when almost every brand has some form of it

How many other brands have them? The MDX is the only Acura I can think of.

I bought my V1 off eBay used for $285 and haven't looked back. Do it.

My G has adaptive cruise control and I also have a stealth K40 Radar/Jammer. When I activate my Radar with ACC on, it goes nuts. I can only use one or the other.

That is annoying. I definitely need to get one of the newer ones. I have a Beltronics X65 and it still gets tripped by those things. Think I am going fully hardwired in next.

Even the V1 has this issue. In fact with the latest upgrade I got last month it seems to have increased the sensitivity of it to the adaptive cruise & those damn LED brake lights that trigger the laser alert.
Every new Nissan or infinity sets mine off. PITA as there's a ton of them in my area of FL.
I put a call in to V1 to see if there was something that could be done.

THIS. Every Q56 or other high end Infiniti sets the Laser on the V1. pisses me off. Otherwise, I have no other vehicle based alerts.

Yeah Infinitis make my V1 go apeshit too.

So many new cars are coming with adaptive cruise and blind spot monitoring that new radar detector technology will be needed to block out the nonsense. I know there's ways you can custom program the V1, but I wouldn't have any idea what I'm doing.

My dad uses an Escort 8500 X50 too and I really wouldn't mind that thing over my V1. 9 out of 10 times that my V1 goes off, its a false alarm. Doesn't matter what mode its in. And the X50 doesn't false alarm on Infinitis...

Cause it's not sensitive enough to pickup a decent laser alert. The V1 is.
..it has gone nuts when my fried drives close to be with his cobra on though
The cobra has a lack of proper sheilding & leaks it's signal.

I have a Bel Sti Driver and it does well but occasionally goes off near a German car so it's nice to know why now. The laser has been quiet and only goes off when there's real laser around. I have been very happy with the Bel the last 4 years.

Up until getting a POP instigated ticket I was pretty happy with a Cobra- that ticket was what prompted my upgrade. Glad I didn't get the V1 if it's that chatty.

me says this is all a conspiracy by the man...

with the invention of radar detectors, drivers now had the upper hand... this is them leveling the playing field with all the new technology causing false alarms, ppl won't rely on their detectors as much and we get popped...

My 8500 x50 does not have this issue either. It has no problems picking up the real thing when needed. My roommate has the 9500 and it is not affected. Seems like the V1 needs better tuning.

no, it actually says:
"red light camera approaching, CAUTION"

the first trip i went on with the detector, I heard the warning, butt still blew past a yellow turning red. :Smackforehead:
