Interesting. The bodywork threw me off and all the LM photos I seen were orange so didn't know. But then again people do re-paint these F1s at HUGE cost to them as well as the F1 owner experience video showed.

Yeah, you can tell he didn't know as much about the F1 as he should...saying how it's a racecar design first and how the engine was an "off the shelf BMW" engine...so not surprised he couldn't foresee the future value in the car.

But very very interesting to see just how involved owning these ultra high level supercars are...where a tire change includes the cost of hiring an racetrack and an ambulance to be on standby...

Don't care, I'll sever off my own left nut and pinky toe to have one.Especially if it were an HDF

I'd like the Countach, but it really does not contrast well with its background like the others.

So to take this in another direction (general car talk), if you keep a car for 5-7 years, I say it's better to pay cash and have no payments. It gives you quite a bit of freedom to trade if need be, but having zero payments really makes life a lot easier. Now, this does take a lot of discipline to save, but I feel it's worth it. Now 0% being offered is a different matter.

Opinions? Thoughts? Hate?

I'd rather just pay cash and be done.

Only finance things you can't pay outright, basically houses and real estate.

Anything else, if I can't pay cash, I can't afford it.

As long as you bought said automobile with a nicely paying out investment, the Finance nerds will be appeased. If you're walking away from 0.9% financing though you might catch some beef/shaking fists since you can take that cash and make a better return.

Straight cash homie!

Seriuosly though we only buy pre-owned so rates typically aren't as good.... so it's never really an issue. Bottom line, if we can't afford it, we don't buy it. We haven't really had a car payment since 2005 and it's been glorious...

True but I also wonder do people actually calculate out if they used the other lump sum to actually generate a better return after 2-7 years.

Although there are CDs you can put in that can get you 2%+ which would be a safe bet....

That's why I say Finance nerd. Most people just look out their liquidity. One of the easiest ways to get taken in a lease is asking if you can swing the monthly.

My general rule is that if there is an investment that results in gains that are more than interest paid on a loan it might be worth it. Currently my cars are paid for but I've been toying with the idea of refinancing the Infiniti at 2.09 % and deposit cash in my brokerage account. Interest on the loan over time should be around $1200. I'm pretty sure I can at least double that in gains and I'll have access to the cash if needs be.

The biggest problem is that most people use that as a rationale and then just blow their money on other stuff anyway...

Time value of money is very important, if you can make the gains, then finance it and take that money to invest.

Who the fuck allowed Honda to take the worst idea in automobiles (the tall sedan/hatchback concept) and graft an Aztek into it? So we now have to be rewarded with an abomination that should be named the Insightek.

Hmm, dialysis or an S5 Sportback......Um, I can lop off some of my liver too. Maybe a lung and a nut and I can move up to an RS7

My last time with car payments was 2002. And I have a habit of keeping cars until I move to a country where I can't bring said vehicle. If I wind up in Japan again, then I'll sell what I have. And speaking of Japan, the cool thing there is you do not have to kill yourself for a pretty nice car. $5-10K gets a very nice car.

My last two cars were purchased brand new, but these are outliers. The Volvo was through Military sales so the price was far lower than the US price, and no sales tax. Can't beat that. But the Subaru, we got a real deal because it had some hail damage. With no real intent to resell it, I took the $5K discount. So it will last a while.

$37,460 for a new Focus RS.

So Ford sent me an email offering $1,000 private cash on a new RS. Looks like they are starting to incentivize.
But then I went to build & price one on the website and for 2018 only the Nitrous Blue and Race Red are color options? That seems odd. And first time seeing red as a color option.

Just found this one for $37k flat: https://www.cars.com/vehicledetail/d...3424/overview/

Interesting to see photos like that. Glad Ford updated the head gasket design, though. But it is a bit worrisome.

The 2018 is the last year and I think they all come with some limited edition package that has a front LSD as well as the back. It's only blue and red this time.

That sounds about right for the going rate for a RS these days. I had offers in that vicinity last summer when I was considering one. The ride is really pretty horrible though, just FYI.

I wouldn't worry about the engine issues, looks like they have it figured out now.

I read about this recently. Apparently it's not a design/engineering flaw but incorrect batch of head gaskets were installed into the RS instead of other ford products:

A tweet from a Ford parts employee also confirmed that the EJ7E-6051-HA engineering number that was spotted on a bad gasket pulled out of a Focus RS is actually assigned to the Explorer and MKC engine in the parts catalog.

This reinforces our earlier claim on the incorrect gasket being installed. According to the parts employee, the correct current gasket for the Focus RS should have G1FY-6051-UB stamped into it.
https://www.roadandtrack.com/car-cul...gasket-issues/

Matt Farah was also angry at people over blowing the issue and not understanding what actually happened. But of course it's perfect source for some click-bait titled youtube videos...... Ford has a TSB/recall open now and everything will be fixed under warranty it seems.

37k for a Forcus RS seems to be quite a deal now!

So this applies to those that track their car as well? I know brands were a bit touchy when it came to vehicles that saw track time. Just curious if anyone has an answer to this.

Hmmm no idea.

AFAIK, a small % of the RS got installed the wrong head gaskets from a wrongly delivered parts bin and per Matt its something like 3%.

I assume harder stresses on the car like track days would cause more/faster parts wear...and if it was defective to begin with......not good....
