Gas Mileage

Hello,

I'm usually around this forum a lot, as I love TLs, but sadly don't own one, yet(its a work in progress). But anyways, I own a 2003 Hyundai Santa Fe, 4cyl base and recently my mpg is just terrible. I don't get more than 100 miles to the tank.

According to fueleconomy.gov, I'm meant to get: 18 City 25 Highway; with a Tank size 17.20 gallons, which means I should get in the area of 280+ miles per tank, give or take some. I do speed a lot(not that I have that much power to do so sadly ), but last few fill ups, I've tried driving pretty normal, and still the same results. At first I thought I had a leak or something, but since then it's been ruled out.

I do mostly city driving, averaging 40mph throughout most places; Anyone have any suggestions as to why I'm getting such horrible gas mileage? By the way, I've been running it to 'E' and following the trip miles.

Pretty sure I got that replaced a few months ago.

I just recently re-filled them, about 3 weeks ago; each is now around 34 or so.

if he has a 4 cylinder santa fe, premium fuel will do nothing for it.
keep using regular fuel.

O2 sensors get lazy. check O2 fuel trims.

another thing to to check, unlikely scenerio but it did happen to my pops. have u noticed that ur brakes are smelling really hot like you've been using the hell out of them? My dad once had a brake caliper issue and they brakes were actually on constantly even when he wasnt applying brakes. the piston in the caliper was locking up and not releasing fully. that really dropped his mileage. doubt thats ur issue tho

100 miles to E on a 17 gal tank is ~ 6 mpg. I'm going to guess that you have a hole in your gas tank or your neighbor is stealing your gas.

There has to be something seriously wrong with the car for you to get 6mpg.

Are you Stig?
