But if it had to be one of these, then I would pick the G8 or the G35.

Outlander XLS
On the CUV front you might want to look at a Mitsubishi Outlander XLS. I've had one for over a year now and it's been great.
Key features:
3.0L V6 (PZEV rated, so it's very clean)
25 mpg real world on the highway, 20 around town (not great, but OK for a CUV)
6 speed auto tranny with paddle shifters
4WD, can be switched on the fly to 2WD-4WD Auto-4WD Locked
Holds 7 passengers in a pinch, small rear seat but the kids love to ride there
Great 650 watt Rockford Fosgate stereo with subwoofer
NAVI, fully integrated with lots of adjustability
Hard drive based Nav, quicker than DVD Nav, also rips/stores music
7 inch touchscreen, also plays DVDs
HID headlights (load leveling), LED tails
Keyless ignition (great feature!) and keyless entry
Hands free Bluetooth, very well integrated, works perfectly
Leather interior, power drivers seat, slide/recline/flip 2nd row, hidden 3rd row
10 year powertrain warranty, 5 year bumper-to-bumper warranty
Moonroof, tinted glass on rear windows
18" alloy wheels
Stability control, traction control, TPMS, ABS, side curtain airbags
I got mine fully loaded like that for $29,000. List is $32,000 but you can get it for under invoice if you try.

Earlier you asked about dealing @ the dealers.
I think that if the economy continues in its current state, dealing should not be a problem. That is as long as you are not buying a hybrid or an economy car.
IMHO, VW/Audi, Volvo, Mercedes drive nice but can be nightmares to own. The new little Ford SUV is nice but heavy so gets bad MPG. Lexus builds some nice cars for passengers and old people but not for drivers. You need to decide what vehicle class you wait to be in. Then FWD, RWD or AWD. Right now you are all over the map.
Buying a new car is more fun than buying a new house.

Go with the 09 Maxima if you are going with one of those. I really like the re-design of them.
Whiskers is pretty much all over the place on these. You must be one hell of an impulse buyer.

I do agree that the redesigned Mazda6 doesn't look too shabby... but if you're gonna do V6, do TL!
This is a Mazdaspeed6 at a Tokyp Autoshow
Not a bad kit...

Oh, and the Maxima only has a CVT transmission, IIRC.
Used 2007 S80s are pretty close to $30K, by the way, if that's an option- depreciation is high, as are repair costs.
