Factory Five Racing 818

Anyone else check out the factory five 818 kit car?

Turns the subaru's drive train from an AWD car to a 818kg, mid-mount RWD coupe.

Completely sick in my opinion and will probably build one sometime. Its still being developed though.

Build cost for them is targeted at $15k, $10k for the kit and around $5k for a sub that you can pull the parts from.

Nothing else out there at that price point for that power to weight ratio. It'll end up being a 1803lb, 270+ HP car depending on how you do your build.

Just thought I'd see if there was anyone else on these forums checking out the FFR kit cars.

Obviously have to build it yourself and tear down the sub, but that's all part of the fun in my opinion.

Here's a link:

I was reading and watching the videos of grassroots motorsports 818 kit car build the other day. Seems like a nice project.

I love the idea, but the design is a little - ehhh...Looks like they combined the design of 5 different cars to make one. I mean it's not ugly, it's just not that attractive...Headlights look like they came off a mid 2000's Camry...I mean REALLY?

The kit is for performance, not to win awards at car shows. If looks is ur main priority then this is not for you.

The whole purpose is to have a cheap tube frame kit.

I like it

If I wasn't supposed to be transferring duty stations soon I'd probably be looking for a sub to start tearing down haha

Ive looked into this car before for a lapping day car. If the wife ever lets me buy a purpose built track day car i may go with one of these. For the price it really cant be beat.

I'm pretty sure their intent is to make the street version street legal. Obviously going to be quite a bit of work getting it registered and titled to drive on the streets, but it does retain all of the emissions systems from the Sub if I'm not mistaken.

I was looking at the street version for that reason, so I could drive it around occasionally and then track it as well.

Love it. Need to keep my eye on this as they start showing up in the real-world. This would be a great track day car...

That seems a little harsh. Eddie is not a donkey.

I can understand what you're saying...But don't forget, you can get it two ways...one that is street oriented, and one that is track oriented. I just wouldn't want to drive a car on the street that looks like it was built using bits and pieces of other cars, that's all!
