Excellent example as to why you should park expensive cars in a garage [pics]

Its not NYC that's upstate, there is no NYMA indicator on the registration and it has an upstate inspection sticker- so this happened north of westchester.
As much as it sucks, a lot of upstaters drive porsche's year round and it is- and it hurts to say this- just a car, imagine of someone had been walking under there when that fell!

That's irrelevant, there is still no NYMA indicator above the VIN on the registration, that's upstate- or at least the car is registered upstate.

Brings back terrible memories of when that happened to my CLS. There was no garage available to park in though. Shattered the rear window, dented the roof, scratches, snow + ice in the back seat. $3.5k in damages. It sucked.

This is just quick math but a quick estimate of this mass falling off a roof could exceed 9000 lbs. Certainly enough to cause that damage.
I was thinking the same thing when I looked at the ice.
ya, I bet your right on. Water is about 7-8lbs per gallon (I believe). Been so long since I've had to measure a gallon I'm sure some website has the weight...

Yea, it is about 8 pounds per gallon. The question would be how much air is trapped and that can vary significantly. Even at 50% the forces of a 15 foot drop would be devastating.

FYI, its not a few years old- its inspection is due in 2005, so its less then a year old.
Edit: Looked at the sticker again and it was inspected in April of 04, I live in NY and don't recall a snow storm that would generate that much ice after april in 04. That damage is fresh and happened this winter season(of 04/05).

Okay that's al little hard to swallow. Those ice chunks look terribly large to accumulate on a roof top. Look at the snow on the roof of the garage, it definitely does not look like ice blocks. This is definitely a insurance scam.
