Ever seen an M5 go 200mph on a public road?

This is a video of my buddy in NY....after he showed me this video I realized he was completely insane! I would never do that. He said he woke up really early and did it on Ocean Blvd at Jones Beach.

I'm tempted to email that link to the police ... He's an asshole for filming it and you're one for thinking that's cool and posting it online.

The mere fact that the driver had no idea where to go or where he was demonstrates that he also had no idea if the road was safe. He was hoping it was, not sure it was.

Take that shit to the track or don't do it. Period.

+1, but I think it might be like a speed limit warning , I have it in my M3 , but I never set it up so I don't really know how it works, but he didn't go over 200 like the video says

I have driven on this road. It is dead straight for at least 4 or 5 miles. This is where I did my top speed run in my RDX. I hit around 130 before things got a little shaky.

Just because its a straight piece of road with no one on it does not mean its safe to go 200mph. It is definitely not the smoothest road and if you hit a pothole or slight depression at 150+ there is no way you are recovering from it without swerving into the guardrails, breaking through them and going into on coming traffic, OR swerving into the sand banks and launching yourself into the Atlantic ocean.

Gives me terrible flashbacks to the night my son could have been paralyzed (if not killed) as a passenger in another E60 M5 driving WAY too fast in Queens.

Man that's just dumb.

I vote for sending this link to the NY police, seriously. One less idiot on the road (and trust me, we have a lot of them here).

For example, consumer tires are rated for around 168MPH. Have a blow-out and him and his passenger won't be doing so well afterwards.

IMO he's stupid for posting this online. Keep racing to the track, or stupid stunts like these off the public roads and on the track.

Man were they taking one hell of a chance. Suppose a small animal ran out in front of them? Or a crow or larger carrion chomper was disturbed while having his breakfast on some road kill and took off right in front of them. Or any one of a number of things that can happen, does happen. They're toast.

I was the passenger in car once that was doing 144 MPH on a two-lane country road one night. It was my younger cousin's wife's car, a 1967 427/435HP L71 Corvette. The car had 4.11 gears and all I could think about is the clutch blowing since the engine was turning 7,400 RPM.. there was no scatter shield. Both my cousin and I had been drinking which made this all the more stupid. That was one of the three times I have really been scared in a car.

At 196 MPH, you are traveling over 287 feet per second. Not a lot of time or distance to take a lifer-or-death decision.

there are a few videos of M6 going that fast. One is at a 2 lane road at night. Some guys in serbia did it in one of their dad's car. I think they died a year later doing the same thing.

I have noticed that too. But I've noticed it mostly on the LIE. Ocean Parkway rarely has cops.

At 4am during the winter time, that road is pretty deserted. Still doesn't make it okay for him to do a top speed run.
