Few highlights..

Quote:
At the test track, this drivetrain delivers the G37 to the quarter-mile mark in 13.8 seconds at 102 mph, while a run to 60 mph takes 5.4 seconds

These impressions were borne out at the test track, where the 335i was not only four-tenths of a second quicker to the quarter-mile mark with a 13.4-second run but also moving at a significantly faster clip of 104.3 mph. Meanwhile, 60 mph came up in just 4.8 seconds.
Quote:
As the dyno reveals, our 335i test car produces 280 hp 5,800 rpm as measured at the rear wheels, while the G37 comes up with 281 hp at 7,200 rpm. As close as these numbers look, the 335i holds a huge advantage over the G in power under the curve from idle to 6,350 rpm. And if you look at torque, the difference is even uglier: 279 lb-ft at 3,370 rpm for the BMW versus 229 at 4,500 rpm for the Infiniti.

The Rest of the Time
So the BMW 335i is the better drive, but would you want to live with it? It depends on your priorities. If the latest technology is a must-have for you, the Infiniti G37 is the better choice. In addition to giving you more content per dollar, the G has a more ergonomically sound layout for the controls, as reflected in its excellent navigation system that deftly blends touchscreen and directional-button functionality.

If quality and interior passenger volume matter to you, the BMW is the one you want. True, you pay extra to get leather in the Bimmer, but the standard hides in the G feel like they belong in a $30,000 car, not a $40,000 one.
sounds like me
Quote:
"Nearly every aspect of our drive feels more natural in the 335i," one of our editors recorded in the notebook for this comparison. "I'm not sure what the price difference is, but the BMW feels $15,000 better."

I don't know, my G retailed for $37k and with 11k miles the leather is not much better then what came on my TSX, I am a bit let down with how it is wearing. I don't think I'll keep it even another 9k miles so I'm not worried about it, but there is no comparison to it and BMW's premium leather. It seems foolish for infiniti not offering a premium finished interior, then again it is the bang for the buck car in the segment and with that lower price comes some lower quality, it is what it is.

Power under the curve is where it's at. Over on the LS1 board we fight about that all the time. You have the dyno queens over camming the stock heads cars, screaming out high ass hp numbers, but getting pissed when the right combo will lower peak numbers beats them in a race. It's all about power under the curve and torque. Peak numbers mean shit when the guy next to you is pulling solid power throughout the power band.

my leather is wearing fine at 21k miles (will have had it 2 years this October).

I have a tiny 1/8 inch "peel" on the piping on the outside bolster that my phone got caught on once, and there are some wrinkles marks on the spot below the left driver's thigh (i have yet to see a regularly driven car with leather without wrinkles in this spot), but besides that, i can't tell that there's any "wear" anywhere else.

after reading that article i was like- surprise surprise. but then again, after driving my friend's 335i the praise is well deserved. i haven't driven the g37- then again i don't think most of us have. i'd like to see how it compares to the previous G.

I was thinking of trading in my 04 TL 6MT for a G37. I like the 335i, but around here, it's simply too "Indian". IIT must be giving them away at graduation.

It's the curry option package, right under the sport package.

its not just dyno numbers. There is a 200lbs difference between both cars, that accounts for a lot. If the G37 wasn't such a whale, the gap would have been narrower.

other testing highlights worth nothing from the article include;

On 335i handling, vs G37:

"Skid pad: Cornering limits feel very manageable in the 335i. The limit of grip feels soft relative to the G37. Balance is excellent, and it's very easy to transition to controllable oversteer. Slalom: Again, the limits are very approachable and can't be pushed with comfort. Ultimately, the 335i is not as comfortable in fast transitions as the G37."

more handling coments:

"The 2008 Infiniti G37 might have softer lines than the 335i, but it's a harder-edged instrument that's quicker through the slalom."

OR E92 M3 if one is insistent on a 3 series.
