DVD Quality Video from the Chicago Auto Show

Thanks to Siggy, I can now offer everyone here the chance to watch DVD quality mpg (edited) files without registering on imagestation, etc at super fast download speeds.

EDIT: PLEASE USE "SAVE AS" TO DOWNLOAD, STREAMING MIGHT NOT WORK AS WELL.

For those of you who have watched these videos on imagestation previously, the quality difference of these new clips is so large, that it is worth re-downloading. No comparison. There is also a new video (Lincoln Navicross), plus previous videos have been edited better (or so I think).

Anyway, here is the link:

http://24.221.29.240/Videos/Chicago%...20Show%202003/

More videos will follow. Thanks Siggy

Now I can show what that cool DV camcorder (Sony TRV25) can do quality-wise. The quality of the content is so much better on the computer, instead of on TV, it's sick.

Definitely not 56K friendly, as the Acura Piece.mpg file is 76.6 MB

Anyway, download speeds are awesome! 200+ right now!

Don't try to view by streaming it. Definitely right-click and save, then view it. Streaming it will take WAY too long

Awaiting download...

Please keep these posted for a while so I can download them from the office on Monday.

I’m still living among the 56K impaired.

NP Gavriil,

ya folks. Do a right click then save as. The codec Gavriil used isn't standard so it wont stream (i.e. just clicking the link). But mediaplayer should play it once the file is completely downloaded. I get a "connecting to site " message in mediaplayer. But thats because it's downloading the entire file, then it will play it. Which takes a few minutes, so do the right click and save as instead.

Shawn S: They'll be there until he deletes them.

Wow! 76.6 MB for a 1:41 file! :wow:

Anyway, the Acura video is pretty sweet! Nice mellow music, and sweet effects!

Kid in the white shouldn't be leaning on the CL though! (Tried to capture the frame, but didn't work)

Hmm... I have no problem playing these with Windows Media versions 9 and even version 6. Do an update of codec on your player. Do a www.windowsupdate.com also to download the latest.

Sorry about the weired codec used. That is what ensures the quality you will see and hear. It is DVD compatible (MPEG2)

I think the music is half the show on most of these. So if you dont have a good sound system (cranked up), use headphones.

60% of the work is trying to match the scenes with the music. Sometimes more successful than other. There is very little scene/music matching on the Acura video for example.

The Acura video was the first I made. So it is not the best one. I think the better video is the Pontiac G6-GTO-Grand Prix video and the Chevy SS and Lexus videos.

Thanks. No problem. There will be more videos. Actually tomorrow I will convert the Crossfire video you saw on imagestation.com to DVD quality and upload.

You should have used Divx. It'll take the file sizes WAY down - and if you keep the bitrate high it'll still be DVD quality.

I wonder how one would do that with Pinnacle's Studio 8. Or any other tool you might suggest.

There's an app called Gordian Knot that does it all for you. Google for it and tutorials on using it and you'll be good to go.

OK I downloaded, installed and briefly played with this thing. I managed to convert my mpg files to avi files encoded with DivX version 5 with the DVD2AVI utility. The acura.mpg file I have online went from 80 MB down to 18MB!

BUT! No sound. Then I realized that this thing creates a seperate .mpa file where it stores all the sound. An additional 2.8 MB. So still a big difference.

For the life of me, I cant figure out how to merge the 2 files. The Gordian Lnow app is WAY too technical for me. I went on the forums. I registered and the smart admin there has put a clause so that new members cannot post for the first 5 days of their registration.

Any help would be appreciated. This DivX codec is amazing. I will bring these huge MPEG2 files down to 1/3 the size.

Merge the 2 audio files?

I think TMPGEnc will do it.

Here is the update. I downloaded XMEG and successfully converted MPEG2 files to DiVX 5. The files are 90% the quality and 1/3rd the size.

BUT!

Although they were playing fine on Media Player 8 (or whatever version comes with Win XP), I upgraded to the latest version 9 and now these DiVX files play like crap. The quality is there, though the video drops frames like crazy and it starts and stops.

Does anyone know of a way to go back a version on Media Player? MSFT makes it impossible to even uninstall Media Player, it does not even appear on "add/remove programs".

Digital Video is just not even close to being user friendly. The standards war is not letting it happen yet. What a pain!

I don't have gordian knot installed right now (had to format again ), but i believe you had to go to the sound tab and configure it before merging them.

I can convert all of them if I find the time this week. Bah, I just got home froim work 30m ago. What a shitty day. (ya it's 1am, and I went in at 9am)

Nice work b.t.w. Gavriil I especially like the Depeche Mode soundtrack.

Too bad that server is on top of South mountain in Phoenix Arizona. Or i'd just copy them onto my notebook. (I'm in Kansas) I'll have to DL them myself, maybe I'll find some time tommrow. I'm a wiz at DIVX movies, hopefully I can squeeze it in.
