Hence the pool
Though it is a bit unseasonably warm, after the Christmas freeze we had.

Well, it's been a few days & no response from the seller. Guessing this one is a pass.

Some sleuths on the Miata boards noted a few [cosmetic] issues form the listing photos, what I thought was arm wear on the door card they said looked like heat damage, re-wrapped steering wheel, seat covers possibly hiding wrecked seats. So maybe crisis averted

Nixed the Miata, still never heard back from the guy.
Might go look at a Malibu replacement tomorrow.

I wish.
Had planned on going look at an Explorer Platinum over the weekend, but sometimes your schedule is dictated by a 2 year old.
If it's still there this weekend, may try again. It's a 90 minute drive each way (Across Houston), but it's priced about 3-4k under 'book value' according to what I can find. Low miles & loaded.

Book values haven't totally caught up with the market, so the price may be right where it should be.

Yeah, for curiosity, I put the Malibu through Carvana & Vroom. Way under the NADA estimate, and half what I paid for it 2 years ago.

I'm looking around every couple days. This is just probably the best priced Platinum in the city. Going to follow up with them today.
Dealer where I bought our Expedition & my F150 has a 21 ST with the ST Street pkg & blank interior, same price but 15k more miles. The black interior on the Platinum is a 2-tone black/brown on the seats. Can't stand it, so it'd be tan on a Plat.

Ideally, would love to find something in Houston, but looking further & making a weekend day-trip out of it might be the way to go.
Having a trade in, necessitates it being driving distance, to an extent.
Opening my search to a Limited as well. Requires dropping to the I4T, but 300HP suits my DD needs well, too.
The TTV6 is 400 on a 22+. It's 365 on the 20-21 Platinum, 400 on all ST 2020+

Even if you have to fly somewhere and drive it home, it could be worth it for the right deal.

True. Found a few more by expanding out the Dallas/SA/Austin, all Limited though. Not a lot of Platinum available for what I want to pay.

Dealer with the Platinum called me back. Similar offer, in-person inspection dependent, to Carvana. Turns out it has 2 reported accidents on the carfax [prior to my ownership]. Not sure if it was from the prior owner [wife's grandmother] or the original owner. [if she didn't buy it new].
NADA put it between 6-8. Dealer said 3-4k. Carvana offer was $4,300 I think.

Like I said, private party that thing and you'll likely get $7k-$8k for it.
Carvana and the sort probably aren't interested in reselling your car anyway and will just send it straight to auction so their offer is going to suck because of that.

True, it is a 11 year old econobox, in good shape with low mileage, but nothing desireable.

Maybe.
Fewer turbos, but great shape & low miles. Loaded apart from 4WD.

Done deal. Finalized everything yesterday.
2020 Explorer Limited, pretty much loaded outside of 4WD

And an Edge. But, apart from the power from the 2.7TT in the ST, I just don't like how the Edge drives. You also feel like you sit on it & not in it.
My oldest will be driving in 4.5 years, so this'll be paid off by then.

2nd time we've been an all Ford house. From back when we had the Flex & F150
Prior to that it was all Honda with the TL & Civic.
In 5 years, the Exploder will be 8 years old & probably have 75-80k on it. Not a bad starter for a new driver & better than the 3.5TT in the MiniBus.

Topped up the tank last night. 22.1mpg. Not much off from the Malibu.
Driving in to the office this morning, got a low oil pressure warning about a mile from home.
Pulled over & shut it down, checked the dipstick & all looked ok.
Drove the rest of the way to the office without issue.
Waited a couple hours & got all caught up at the office & went out to check the oil again, dry dipstick
Called the salesman & have him checking if an oil change was done prior to it going on the lot. Hoping I haven't been driving for 2 weeks on low oil.
Waiting to hear back from him & we'll see what they're going to want to do about it.
