Ugh.. now that I got through pages 3-5 of complete NONSENSE ... I believe I can chime in here.

I do autoX, road course events.. yadda yadda... I don't claim to know everything, but here are my opinions.

The ZO6 OR "regular" C5 are very good cars. They were not made to just go fast in a straight line.. although it is pretty darn fast with some bolt on mods. My "regular" C5 runs 12.4 @ 116 in the 1/4 with bolt-ons.

Now.. the M3 is NOT made to be a straight line car. No BMW has ever been made for that purpose. BMW's fame comes from the ability to design a vehicle that has a very good balance of all.

The E46 M3 is on the heavy side and many BMW fanatics will tell you that the real M3 car for a "driver" is the E36 M3 and a REAL built for track model was the E30 M3. The new E46 has much more comfort added to said balance of car.

With the same driver, I think the ZO6 would hand a M3 defeat on a road course. Again, what was the car designed for. The E46 was meant to be your all around town, 4 seater that goes fast and handles well. The ZO6 was designed as a car you could drive to the track with and go home with.

If you think this debate is hot, just wait until the next generation Corvette comes out. It is supposed to perform and handle better than the current generation

In terms of straight line performance it is....handling it is a bit lacking, but that is just the diff between MB and BMW tuning....do you want a luxury with just enough sport to be civilized or do you want a better handler with decent luxury.

They are fairly close in the straight line, but the M3 is still a good bit quicker.

Here ya go! Cheap too! http://www.hotwheelsshop.com/mb/plsq...archstr=modena

But seriously topdaytrader, if you are here to flaunt your assets, please go and be immature elsewhere. If you are indeed as wealthy as you say you are, go buy yourself some maturity and class...

right on yumchah! You can't take that ferrari with you when you die either! Don't get me wrong, I love exotics, especially Ferraris, but I could give a shit who drives one. The CAR impresses me, not the yuppy who can afford it!!

Also, can't wait for the S4 to come out--a naturally aspirated 340 +hp V8. Let's see a R&T comparo with the S4 and M3!

6speedS,

Although the claims set forth by topdaytrader are generally narrative and indefinite, they fail to conform with current U.S. practice. They appear to be a literal translation into English from a foreign document and are replete with grammatical and idiomatic errors.

As to your statement regarding reading the comparo on the new naturally aspirated S4 and the M3, I would say that claim is ricerable in view of topdaytrader.

Topdaytrader explicitly discloses the fact that reading of said comparo in a puplication such as Road & Track, Motor Trend and/or Car and Driver and speaking of results of said comparo, it is inherent that one is a ricer.

I'v ebeen at work WAY too long today...

Unfortunately, I think Audi missed the boat with their new S4. 340hp and only 5.6 0-60 times? That is slower than the current generation S4 which does it in 5.5 seconds.

In addition, part of the fun of the S4's was that they had tremendous low end torque. Neck snapping in fact. After I modded mine with an MTM chip, I had an estimated 310hp and 350 ft lbs of torque. I say estimated only because of the fact that there is only one 4 wheel dyno I know of, so real whp was not attainable.

The new S4 misses out on that torque, and that turbo whine. With mods that cost about 10k, the previous generation S4 could take an E46 M3 in a straight line and on the track.

Th new one? I don't know.

With a few more mods not totalling more than another $1k, I'll catch up. I paid $30K for my car, the M3 owner paid $53K for his car. I think the CL 6spd is a good competitor!!

Stock to Stock.... the M3 is a MUCH superior car, I have to admit it. The CL needs a tad more work on the suspension part to even get close to the handling capability of the M3
A gutted out M3... Was it silver and racing at Carlsbad raceway? Was your CLS silver?
