My priorities have changed a lot from when I was in my 20's to now my 30's. I used to think people cared about what I drove, but they really don't. Although it felt good to get the occasionally "hey, that's a nice car...", I'd say 99% of the time, people don't give a damn. So I don't either.
I have to focus solely on myself and my family (fiance and doggies). If that means driving around in a wagon, so be it. The people most important to me are the opinions that matter to me. And they don't care about the car I drive or anyone else's.
I love to talk cars, it's a passion, but I don't care if someone else drives a nicer car. I wish we could all be Saudi Princes, but that's not reality.

I own my cars and my home.
Those kids and quite often adults don't own their cars or homes. The banks do.

I guess I just don't understand that mentality, be happy with what you have and if you're not set goals, create plans and then make your dreams a reality. I do not like anyone(not just kids) who feel a car makes them who they are, I don't care what you have it's a just a car it does not make you a better or worse person. I drive a cheaper car because I don't drive much and it makes very little sense for me to have a depreciating asset just sitting around most of the time so I can feel good about myself when I am out. Nor do I feel like less of a person when I pull up next to someone who has a 6 figure car, I'm enormously successful and a large part of that success has come from being underestimated.
Be your own man, a fancy car isn't going to get you the girl you want or create a better life for you if the foundation your building on is unstable.

For me it was even before getting married. Things like having more cash on hand and paying down debt became more important. But getting married has made doing the prior mentioned even more so. Weddings can be $$$ if you allow them to.

I couldn't care less; I was one of those "kids" with a nice car but I respected it and valued the fact that my parents went above and beyond to provide me with a wonderful gift. Now, a bit older and somewhat wiser, I look at those younger than me who share the same shoes I once filled and hope that they too value their gift for what it's worth.
There will always be others out there with more than you; that's life. Be happy you're healthy, and getting an education. There are a lot of people worse off out there than you are.

As far as kids in Somalia or other shithole countries are concerned, we're all irritating obnoxious assholes because we (adults) have cars period. Not to mention, our kids have cars.
Make sure you appreciate what you DO have in life.

nope, doesn't irritate me. what does irritate me, though, is their mentality when they do drive the car (i.e. wanna-be pimp, own the road, etc.).
there is more to life than just cars. you never know, these people may have this/that car, and only to find out that he/she is (1) working at mcd's, (2) living at home for the rest of their life, etc. (not that it's my business how peeps spend their money. just putting things into perspective).

Not at all, I wouldn't say it irritates me at all. What irritates me is the attitude they adopt because a car gives them a certain status.
When I lived back in Ottawa, I lived down the street from Micheal Cowpland, the founder and CEO of Corel. In addition to excessive partying in their 20k sq foot home, his son was always driving up and down the streets in Daddys Ferrari and Lamborghini. Often he would be doing excessive speed showing his friends the speed those cars were capable of, sure enough when he got pulled over one time he got the message. Also as Terry mentionned, it's sad to see these kids not treat these cars right. They also have a daughter who received a 1-series vert for her birthday..I swear my lawnmower is better maintained.

However, I won't lie, I do like the occasional encounter I have when I meet an older car enthusiast while driving my car or on foot. Pricks aside, I usually get/give waves or thumbs up from Porsche drivers and muscle car guys.
I'll always remember the time when it was 60/70-something yr old gentleman driving a red MX-5 with the caption FUNFO2 on his plates and gave him a thumbs up, the smile on his face made my day.

When I lived in Virginia, there was an elderly man (close to 90) in my area with a yellow Integra Type R.

simple jealousy
i have to admit, i have a nice car, and the fact that im working to pay for it and its in my name makes me feel better about myself. but damn it really pisses me off when you see punk ass kids driving cars that you know they cant afford.
take yesterday for example: me and the gf were at the mall yesterday, and i saw an Audi S5. guess who was driving it? some high school kid. it even had the damn parking tag on it "student clovis west high school" wtf?
today here at school as i wait in my car for class to start, i see some thug guy in a 3rd gen aspec TL, a G8 GXP, EVO MR, and a brand new lifted Chevy D-Max.
thats my rant for the day
kthxbye

It never irritates me when I see kids driving nice cars. It never irritates me when I see anyone driving a nice car. I know what we have... and I don't give a shit about what anyone else has. I also do not give a shit about what anyone else thinks.
Plus, like Ken said... most people are making monthly payments on their possessions. If that's what they want to do... then more power to them. Doesn't bother me in the least. If they paid for them outright... again, more power to them. I don't care either way.
I worry about me, and my family. That's it. Doesn't matter what anyone else has or doesn't have.

I sometimes get jealous of others. Then I think about how others have it worse than I do and I should be grateful and blessed. I also work very hard for what I have and that gives me a sense of accomplishment. The parents that give their kids anything they want and do not have to work for it, or are ungrateful, are doing them a great disservice. There is nothing being taught for the real world.

I used to get jealous in high school, I'll admit. But then that was because I couldn't drive at all then when I got my Integra, I didn't really care. I just wanted to drive stick because I never could before then, even if that meant leaving the much, MUCH nicer TL-S at home. My Integra was ugly paint-wise but I didn't care. I liked driving it and I worked hard for it and I picked it out. It was nice to leave the TL at home in case my mom wanted to drive it, since it was her car anyway.
I just don't see the point in getting jealous. There will ALWAYS be someone with a nicer car than you, I don't care if you're an oil sheik. Maybe not if you're the Sultan of Brunei, but otherwise, yeah. Plus jealousy and envy lead to no good. I just noticed a thread like this in the TL forums a few days earlier, and I said the same things. Who cares? Now, if I saw some kid my age or younger driving a C6 Z06 or a 997 GT3, I'd probably get jealous.... but I haven't yet so

Nope, absolutely not. What bothers me is if they present themselves with a particular attitude while driving a nice car.
On a side note, I don't believe all kids who have been given a nice car are arrogant or undeserving. As long as they are respectful and realize the efforts their parent's made to provide them with such luxuries, I don't see it as a problem.

What I thought was funny and deserving of a punch in the face, were the kids on an MTV show I saw a few years ago. They were turning 16, and the parents were ultra rich. So a kid was given a brand new Lexus, and she bitched about the color, and another one complained because it was the wrong car.
It made me happy with the way my life and kids have turned out.
OP: at 22, I owned a 10 year old Pontiac, was active duty (Army), and could barely afford to maintain it and put gas in her. You're doing just fine.

What also irritates me however is the fast assumptions people make when they do see younger adults driving nicer cars. The 21 year old who bought my previous M5 bought it cash after working delivery for the past 6 years or so. Obviously there aren't many cases but still...I wouldn't judge/talk without knowing the details.

Meh I know that if they didn't truly earn the car, then they'll end up abusing it and it'll be a pile of rust in a few years, or selling it to pay for their phone and credit card bills.
Kind of reminds me of Hulk Hogan's son, totaling his dad's Toyota Supra and all.

Absolutely not. I worry more about my own finances then other's. I'm doing alright for myself, at 25 I got my own place and two cars. My girlfriend now lives with me so I just bought my Honda Fit. She drives my TL, I drive the Fit for work and it doesn't bother me a bit.
It's all good man. I concentrate on my own circle and making sure that's taken care of. Then I try to make the most out of what this world has to offer.
