nope, really don't get it. I mean I can see the vette being a weekend car since it is so sporty but I personally don't see the need to have a "beater" instead of driving the TL. The TL is a great car but it was def. my daily driver

At some point that's my plan.

I just have a weakness for cars and a limited budget

My '01 Ford Ranger Pickup. Bought it used in '02 with 1965 original miles on it (owner was the dealer's business manager and he needed a larger truck with which to tow his new boat).

My '04 manual TL has never seen snow - and over the past two days, we got 24" inches of the damned stuff here.

In all seriousness I am not the car nut I once was and when I had beaters they were a constant stream of problems, I can see having a fun play car, but not at the expense of a car I can comfortably drive and rely on everyday. Comfort and reliability is far more important to me on a daily basis then anything else.

^ Understandable, and everytime I plan to sell the mustang mind you 225k miles, something happens to where we keep her. 1st time we got a dog, Im damn sure not putting a puppy in the corvette, and the wife feels the same concerning the lexus. Another time I had a buy lined up when she had about 180k miles, (before corvette) and I started having trouble with my CL. And now, with all those miles, shes probly worth 500 bucks. But the paint shines and the interior is perfect hehehe.

I bought my beater for $300 at the auction, best place to find them. It has plenty of problems but the engine is great! I think I have the "ultimate" beater lol wish I could get like a 99 3.2TL but that's gonna be a little more then $300.

Everyone in my house bitched and moaned to me about how I didn't need an extra car...But guess how many times they asked me to borrow it?

I don't consider it a beater, because I don't really think of any car as a "beater", but I have a 1994 Ford F150 extended cab XLT. I cannot get rid of it. It's mainly my dog Princeton's truck, and he and I use it twice daily for coffee runs at the local Tim Horton's. It now has about 350 000 kilometers (about 240 000 miles) and runs perfectly. Everyday we go through the drive-thru with it, where the staff has been giving Princeton free donuts for close to ten years. I can't picture myself without either of them, and both of them just seem to compliment the other so damn well.

I wish I had a beater car.

My mom drives a 2001 Dodge Durango with 120k that I use when the weather is bad. Unless she is going out somewhere.

No money for a beater.... my Z28 is out there rain or shine. Some of my friends are a little nervous about riding in my car when its raining though

It's all in the tires...

I really don't see the point of having a "beater". I'll take care of my "beater" just as much as my current TL.

Also, I bought my car because I wanted to actually "drive" it.

I take care of my pathfinder, but I also dont care if someone opens their door into it in a busy parking lot.

I also have other uses such as hauling gear or the rare occasion to take it off-road.

But I don't want to have my challenger out in rain if I can help it and there is certainly no way in hell I want in busy LA parking lots where everyone is a careless asshole. Sure, I want to drive it all the time. But I like driving my truck also.

So, I reserve the challenger for cruises and car shows. Its my toy, not my daily driver.

What I don't see the point of is having car like a TL or TSX and then having a beater...Its a TL/TSX....its a sport sedan, designed for everyday driving. Its not like its a toy sports coupe/ weekend car.

Our old 2000 Quest WAS our beater car until it was totaled just recently.

We are currently in the market for a 7G Civic (or similar vehicle) as a beater, given that our 09 MDX is ridiculously thirsty on gas.

i drive my old ass es300 when i am not driving the boxster and the wife drives the integra when she's not driving her 4runner. We have the integra purely to offset the cost of gas on the 4runner, 29mpg > 15 mpg. If we keep the integra for about 6 years it will have paid for itself compared to driving the 4runner all the time.

es300 156k
integra (virgin, never been modded) 117k
4runner 127k
boxster 57k

We use the vehicles until they are dead. It would be nice to have new or newer cars but we don't need em.

I have my 96 2.5TL with 249K that I drive when we get more than 1" of snow....once I get the new tires on the RL (end of this week) I'm not sure if the TL will get driven at all...i'll still keep it just because it's in great condition mechanically but yet not worth much $ so I don't want to give it away.

Not a "beater" per se but if we're heading off to some place where the parking is hairy, we usually take the Mazda3...

But, for work, both cars are out...

No beater, but I'd sure like to get my hands on a 240SX as a toy. But I also may have to trade in my TL for a van soon, so I dunno.

I drive a 2007 FJ Cruiser and an Aprilia Tuono, my wife has a 2006 Audi A6, and we have a 1991 Chevy "Silverado" as our "beater". We use it when we go to Home Depot, run stuff to and from storage, park at the airport, etc. It was a business truck for large catering events, but now we just use it when we need to haul a bunch of large things around.

My 1997 Toyota 4Runner is my DD & my beater if you want to look at it that Way?
My wife drives the new TL to work & back. She never beats on here cars.
My daughter now drives my wifes 2003 Maxima because she was bugging us that she needed a car.
And of course my 1966 Musatng is for Cruise Nights & Car Shows.
So when we go somewhere, like the supermarket, we take my truck because I am not so concerned with what may happen to it.

What would everyone define as "beater"?

I used to avoid taking the TL up to Tahoe or to areas with shit ass weather and crappy roads (or lack of roads). Now I don't care as much. Obviously I'm not going to intentionally scratch or dent the car, and I still genuinely care about its condition, but shit happens, and I prefer it to happen to the TL than the mustang or audi.

I was thinking of getting a beater for the winter but considering that winter is 6 months long, I couldn't put my car in the storage and drive some piece of shit around. I didn't see the point really. I wanna get another car, weekend and summer car, but TL is still gonna be my DD. hoping for a E36 euro spec M3

I have a 92' Toyota Camry for my winter beater.
CO has terrible winters and my TL is dropped on Tein's with high performance summer tires.

I drive the Camry only when necessary.
