CTS-V launch at 0.99g causes OnStar activation

I know you guys must be tired of CTS-V stuff by now but this made me LOL!

BTW, Hennessey got an 11.07 1/4 mile at 128 mph on the run. :what: It sounds sweet....and that side-side sliding on launch is the same shit that happened to me at the drag strip. Hard to get even stock power down....

"OnStar....spying when you're on the track!"

CLtotheTL32 10-23-2009 11:28 PM

That's awesome! If I had that car strictly for track use, I would disconnect that though.

S A CHO 10-24-2009 12:10 AM

I love that car.

 Onstar thought there was an accident.

The Dougler 10-24-2009 12:19 AM

DO WANT. That thing is a beast.

onebadna1nsx 10-24-2009 12:25 AM

Hoe...Lee...Shit. Do want.

 are there any top speed numbers?

Costco 10-24-2009 01:21 AM

:chuckle: that's funny.

Welcome to the world of the LSx. Add in RWD and you've got something beautiful.

mrmako 10-24-2009 04:15 AM

Bob, that is sick... And the sound...um... :leghump:

And not OnStar, BTW.

dallison 10-24-2009 05:48 AM

SouthernBoy 10-24-2009 07:53 AM

Bob, I still hate you... that's beautiful. Incidentally, this prepped car has a cam in it judging by the idle.

Launching any car like this is going to be the most difficult part of the 1/4 mile journey, unless you have decent tires on it. With as much low end torque as this engine puts out and a good hookup, with tires I would expect 60 foot times in the 1.6 second range.

But look at this. The CTS-V comes in at over 4200 pounds curb weight! And it only has a small block Chevy under the hood. Yet the fact that it pulls the kind of numbers it does speaks volumes about the entire package. I LOVE THIS CAR!! And I love the fact that is is the best of its kind anywhere in the world.

Thank God for Cadillac. Who would have thought they'd do this years ago where there was Chevrolet and Pontiac around. But they did and man, what a machine.

Even our experienced CTS-V forum members are getting in the range of 2.0 seconds on stock tires. You are right, though...on slicks, there is no stopping this car. :drag: I am a n00b and still got a 2.07 60-foot time on two of my three launches. I just need to lower my reaction time and I'm golden.

Even better, I wish GM had put a launch control system on the V.....but then again, that would cheapen the experience, I suppose.

Indeed, it does. The car has THIS Hennessey package--click. The package is actually available for purchase.

BTW, it's only after I spent time at the dragstrip this week that I see why people mod these engines. MUST. HAVE. MORE. POWAH! But I'll wait until after the warranty is done.....

Oh, and from the responses I guess you're not bored of the CTS-V after all. :)

No sir. At least I'm not. As I see it, "there's a doctor in the house and boy does he have a cure for what ails you".

You take care and my only comment is.... a manual would have been S-O-O-O-O nice with this machine.

DarkSithCL 10-24-2009 11:25 AM

Nice find, and no! ...that car is such a sleeper and so few peeps know much about it, so keep giving us the 411 bro!

Bob... you are now officially a HP fiend!!! You wont get enough...even when you twist the rear end off that thing... there is absolutely nothing like going fast!!!

Safely.

psteng19 10-25-2009 12:02 AM

When he was in 1st and 2nd, was that the sound of the clutch not fully engaged (slippage), or wheel spin?

Excuse the noob ignorance. Never launched a high powered RWD car before.

Wheel Spin

neuronbob 10-25-2009 06:54 AM

From my own personal experience in the V, that was DEFINITELY wheel spin. As I keep saying, it is really, really hard to put all that power to the ground on stock tires....and the Michie PS2s are EXCELLENT tires.

BTW, a random fact....Caddy said in the "Tell Fritz" page last week that they sold around 3500 CTS-Vs since release. That outsells the RL, I think. ;) If Acura had only brought over the Mugen Legend w/V8 and 500 hp.....I wouldn't have to worry about wheel spin on launch! Can you imagine SH-AWD + 500 hp?

Yep, wheel spin.. easy to spot.

Can you imagine how much clutch slip the TL would have due to its delay valve if it was a rear wheel drive? RWD cars have far more traction than FWD cars do so they would really have to dial in the delay to "save" the drive train in this case.

Yep, RWD and High HP cars dont work in these economies. Good thing honda stuck with Fuel Efficient V6s and great designs.

SlimTL 10-25-2009 06:09 PM

I love the CTS-V. It's such a beast that it sets off its own emergency system. Now that's awesome!!!
Great choice in car Neuronbob.

FiveLiterCheater 10-25-2009 09:41 PM

Call onstar and tell them to up the boost on your CTS-V

n1njai 10-25-2009 11:48 PM

So why'd it go off? The wheel spin?

No, the car launched so hard off the start that OnStar was notified. I guess when g-forces exceed a certain threshold (like getting hit hard in an accident) it triggers notification.
