Comptech springs -- compare ride to a 5-series BMW (yes/no). Comments?

Someone commented to me that they thought the Comptech springs feel like a 5-series BMW. I'm talking about the general road feel over bumps etc.

Anyone care to comment.

I think I'm starting to have a styling urge, to clip off that gap above the wheels.

Anybody ridden in a friends BMW 3 series or 5 series for comparison

(I lost the chance for a meeting with the springs this week...)

Note: I think our cars look better (IMHO) dropped after the wheels are changed.

No way! The 5 and 7 series Bimmers ride much better..... so much so it's not comparable with a CL-S, with or without springs.

As for the 3 series, it's close, but still different. The 3 series is actually firmer and will hop more whereas the CL-S w/springs bounces.

I love the CL-S w/springs, but a Bimmer is, well, a Bimmer. No comparsion...... IMHO.

I'm not trying to compare the handling etc of the BMWs vs our cars. I think I should have re-phrased this to:

"Is the stiffness similar WITH the Comptech springs"

So, are you saying 5-series rides softer and 3-series about the same????

EricL,

I'd say the ride in my Comptech-lowered Type S is comparable to that of my friend's E36 323 Sport. However, in my car has more of a sensation of resonance over sharp road imperfections. I figure it's one or more of the following (these are all guesses):

- The stock shocks on my car are not quite damping the ride motions well enough for my taste when used in conjuction with the Comptech springs

- The body cavities surrounding the shock mounting points are transmitting too much of the impact because of a lack of secondary damping

- The sidewalls on the stock Pilot MXMs are slighty shorter than the Conti's on my friend's Beemer (they are 205/55 16 if memory serves)

For sure, the Comptech-lowered ride in my Type S is *far* more supple than my previous Integra GS-R. (Probably no big surprise ).

Bottom line, IMHO a small price to pay (with respect to comfort and practicality) for a big payoff in style and ride control. Besides, I'm dyin' to see what a lowered CL looks like with those SSR Competitions .

Good luck bro.

Correction: It is an E46. Apologies for posting twice; for some reason I could not edit my original post.

I'd say the 3 series is similar. The 5 and 7 series' are softer, but not floaty at all. A 5 series can still out handle a CL-S w/springs.

I don't know if a 5-series can outhandle a cl-s with springs. There is no 5-series (save the M5) that can outhandle a cl-s with springs and sways and toyo tires.

The ride of the 3-series sport is definitely stiffer than a stock cl-s and a bit stiffer than a cl-s with comptech.
