It's unanimous. Jet black.

Grey. Way easier to take care of and looking nice. Black looks REALLY good for 5 minutes, and then a gnat craps on it and you can see it from 5 miles away.

No I didn't. I read enough good things about this vehicle to want to stick with it after researching it. I see Durangos EVERYWHERE around here and I can't own a vehicle like that. The Mazda is a much nicer looking vehicle IMO, gets better gas mileage and was in the end, a lot cheaper. The dealer is a friend of mine and he gave me a quote for it at dealer cost.

Black, then again the last five new cars we've purchased have been black, so I'm a little biased

Late to the party, but Machine Gray is probably my favorite Mazda color right now.
Interested to hear your thoughts on the CX-9, thinking about trying to get my wife to test drive one. Her Flex has just over 80k on it & the CX gets much better MPG and looks better.
Are you going Grand Touring or Signature? Replacing the Xi?

I'm going to do what these threads usually end up doing...
Why not that sweet red color that they offer?

The inconvenient truth
Good choice on the black. I like the grey but it kind of reminds me of an appliance. Put mazda wheels on my refrigerator and you couldn't tell the two apart.

Machine Gray is still my top choice since Ceramic from the Miata & CX-3 isn't an option on the 6 or CX-9.

I guess the black is an appliance color too. But im biased since my car is black and my appliances are all grey. Including my washing machine grey metallic.

As-is I think the black looks a little better. However, the grey is definitely easier to clean and shows dirt less. I hate washing my wife's black car.
I think the grey with black wheels would be my #1 pick, if they have that option available..

IIRC, all CX-9s share the same 18" or 20" wheels, trim dependent.
Maybe a different shade of gray/silver, but no black available, that I'm aware of.

Gray is one of my favorite colors on any car! But, the photos in this thread do not do gray any justice. The photo of the black car looks much nicer due to angle/lighting/everything else beyond the color..

I have the little sibling CX5 for a rental tonight. Not a bad car at all.

I voted for black because I think it looks better. But it was a hard vote because my heart said black and my mind said grey. I swore off of dark colored cars indefinitely. There were days where I washed and waxed my black Sorento in the driveway and then literally parked it in the garage right after and closed the door only to wake up the following morning and see a fine layer of dust had already managed to accumulate on the paint. Not to mention because the primer was white every single tiny nick, scratch, and chip was painfully obvious.
In contrast my silver MDX could be washed once a month and literally look great that entire month. Of course the black was very rewarding, a nice coat of wax and oh boy it was amazing. Silver on the other hand does look nice when washed but it is hard to tell a freshly waxed silver car from one that’s been a while.
I remember once I spent 3 hours washing and waxing my royal blue pearl RDX and then I literally went inside to wash my hands, I came out 5 minutes later to see that it started drizzling (our weather can be very unpredictable so I never seen the clouds coming). On a silver car it wouldn’t have been a big deal but on the RBP my heart broke. I stopped caring so much after that.

The black looks good, but I like the gray metallic better.. After owning 4 black vehicles over the years I have sworn off them.. I am just too anal to have another..
IMO the gray looks a lot better in person than in the pics.. I recently saw a CX5 in gray (I'm assuming its the same color) with gray OEM rims and it looked awesome..

Grey looks better to me but they both look very sharp! Good choice.

Not doing it justice? It was voted for more than 2 to 1, compared to black

To me it looks washed out and flat, I bet in real life it isn’t like that but I don’t think I’ve seen it (or noticed it) so I don’t know. Regardless of pole results, to me it looks awful in these pics is what I was trying to say.

I wanted the grey but the boss' boss said "why get another car that color when my 335 is that exact same color?" Point well taken and after I stared at her car in the driveway for a while I realized what a boring color it is. In bright light the grey looks great but winter months around here being what they are . . . . The sales manager had his black CX5 parked out front and said "look, it doesn't really get that dirty, I just drove back from Ottawa last night." The last factor was as dark as the grey is it changes color which I'm not a fan of. I pick up the black one later this week.
Taco: I am a Bimmer guy however, I didn't feel like spending over $60K for an X3 that doesn't have all the features on it I can get standard on the CX9 for $17K less.

My solution to the black car problem is to just never wash it. Black Jeep being dirty all the time looks intentional and therefore not bad.
I wouldn't buy a black car again though.

The real solution is to get it ceramic coated. It is pricey but it is very much worth it if you like your car to be super clean everyday.
