No.

If you want a Radar detector that actually warns you of a speed trap BEFORE they clock you, buy a V1 or an escort. I know you're a student and that you don't have cash to burn, but anything less than these 2 is a waste of money.

All that thing is going to give you is false hope and eventually a ticket.

you V1/Escort fanboys kill me

Will that cheap cobra unit be as accurate or give you as much protection as the higher priced models? NO

Is it still a good buy for someone who doesn't want to spend 200-500? Yes

Ive had a cobra for 5 years that I paid $100, and it has saved my butt more times than I can count. You guys must be some rich ass mofo's cause I dont know anyone personally who would fork out the money for a V1 or Escort 8500. At their price I would take my risks and if I get a ticket I can pay for it with the money I saved

My last ticket was in February 2001. The V1 has kept me clean since then. I don't know about every state, but in MA, 1 speeding ticket + the increase in your insurance= more than the $420 the V1 cost.

At the time I was working on the State Fish Pier in Gloucester MA, no rich ass MOFO's there, just blue collar guys who hate giving the G-man our money.

If you can afford a decent car you can afford a good RD. But everyone's priorities are different.

dude, i sell these pieces of shit at best buy and usually end up talking people out of them rather than into buying them. they suck, they break easily and they're just a plain old waste of money.

you'd be better off buying guitar hero 3 and just slowing down on the roads.

maybe you should ask for an escort 9500 or a valentine V1 for christmas if you can't keep your lead foot off the gas.

They're not too bad for as cheap as they are, but they're like anything else...you get what you pay for. If you're looking for something to give you a heads up when there's radar around they do their job. I have a Cobra and a Bel (in different cars) and you can definitely tell the difference, but the cobra's still saved me a few times.

I would try not to. Cobra really made a bad name for itself over the years. If your that short on cash get a used escort 8500 non X50. There as good as the X50 but without POP detection. Heres a good place to see reviews on different RD

I used an XRS9330 to go down to FL a few months ago. It worked fine for me. The VG2 mode definately helped, because I was invisible to the radar detector-detectors quite a few times. I still love the V1, just can't get myself to actually spend the money on one. I end up mooching off of someone who has a detector, and the 9330 was all I can get at a moments notice. If I didn't get the V1, i'd probably get the Bel RX65 or the STi Driver

my escort 8500x50 picks up my freinds cobra when i drive up to his car........that to me means it sucks. my best friend and my ex both have the cobra, my ex's was about 150-175 and it's pretty decent but does go off alot randomly. my freind cobra was 100 and that thing does not shut the hell up, it goes off on everything including with x band shut off.

my escort goes on only when i'm near a CVS or brooks pharmacy on k band. other then that it's quite until there is a real threat and i can pick up speed traps a mile ahead. my escort was going nuts on the highway about a mile before the cop and i slowed down quickly, sure enough it was a speed trap. my bro was behind me and his cobra didn't go off until he pretty much next to the cop. he called me and said wtf mine never went off, i said mine did your is a piece of shit.

my escort has saved me on numerouse occasions, but u do have to keep a lookout on the horizon and behind you. it has more then enough payed for itself.

escort or V1, only way to go
and the bel rx65 is basically a rebadged escort, same radar detector.

get a higher end cobra and you'll be fine. MINE HAS SAVED ME COUNTLESS TIMES. DISCLAIMER - if your device detecs laser or vg-2, then it's already too late. k, ka, and x bands are where they can shine

No. Cheap radar detectors are usually not worth the money. I have an Escort 8500 and I love it. I would recommend buying either a Valentine or an Escort.

I have a higher end Cobra radar detector, which have saved me several of times. To be safe then I agree with everyone here if you want a great radar detector, get a V1 or Escort 8500/9500.
