It's basically a race-prepped track-ready road car with cage with the SLR McLaren's supercharged V8 engine (slightly retuned for less hp, but more torque) stuffed under the bonnet.
You can look at it two ways:
1) An "inexpensive" way of owning the $400K MB SLR McLaren's supercar powertrain.
2) An overpriced 500+ hp Mercedes-Benz coupe for people with money to burn to call their track car
If I had that kind of cash, and wanted to go MB, I'd take an SL65 or CL65 V-12 twin turbo. They're much cheaper but have over 150 ft-lbs more torque (737) and a boatload more creature comforts.
Nice car though. Perfect for the DTM race fan with extremely deep pockets.

This isn't just a "sum of its parts" sort of car. There are less than 5 coming to the US and probably fewer than 20 worldwide. People that have the money to consider buying a $285,000 car usually live in communities where Lambos and Ferraris are as common as Civics. These people want something to make them stand out and that’s where this car comes in.

I think that the CLK DTM would be an interesting car, but it's a little much for me. I think with that kind of money, I'd start with a 360 Modena Spyder.
