CLK-500. To buy, or not to buy?
So a co-worker of mine is selling his 2002 or 2003 clk 500 for $28,000 to friends and family. The car is in good condition and has a hair under 40,000 miles on it. Should I think about selling my 1998, 40k acura integra with nothing wrong with it and buying this car? He's selling it at below its blue blook value. Do these cars hold their values well? Are they reliable? I have heard horrror stories from my uncle who has an 00 E series with mantenance issues/costs. Right now I'm in Houston and I'll probably be moving back to NY (and most likely selling) the car in a year or two....thoughts?

That is a really good price for the CLK500 with less than 40,000 miles.
The car is gorgeous and Im sure fun to drive. I would totally get it if I were you.
Negative note-
MB is not known for being extremely reliable. But I have never personally had one so I dont know. And labor and parts probably arent cheap.
Positive note-
And YES they hold their value very well. You dont need to worry about that.

If you ask me, a new car purchase should happen for only 4 reason's, assuming of course you can afford the car.
1- You HATE your car
2- You LOVE/NEED a different car
3- You car is costing you more money that it should (breaking down, replacing parts)
4- You have a lot of money to burn
Just my opinion

yeah, i don't hate my car, i'm just very indifferent to it. I really like the CLK. My car currently costs no money in maintenance. I had some money. Not a crazy amount, but enough.

Well standard maintenance, let alone repairs are going to be in a league of their own when compared to your current Integra. If you can afford to pay 2k at an unexpected repair without thinking much about it then I'd say go for it.

^^^ and that too, plus an extra merc warranty is going to run you about $3000
I was given an 05 CLK500 not to long ago from my Merc dealer......Personally i felt the interior looked cheap, especially in the back. It is a fast car.
If its an 02 (older body style, i prefare that) but 28K is more like retail. 25-26 MAX. If its an 03...its not a bad deal, but rememeber warranty will be up very soon as it does have high miles.

There a lot of things you don't appreciate about your car until it's gone. If you've got the cash to do it and think the "status" jump will make you feel good, do it man. I don't like it as much as the previous CLK but I'd drive it over my CL-S if it didn't cost me a penny.

By the way, I'd take the car for $28k. I think you'd be crazy not to. Just try to get some information about the car first before you buy it, like find out if he takes care of it.
