Yeah, I'd even settle for an Acura product instead of the CR-V. Something - anything - other than a CVT.
I tried to get her into a Tiguan before she got the CRV but the price was a non-starter. She also doesn't understand that prices are negotiable, especially on VWs

Yeah it's got the 1.5l turbo in it. Great for highway gas mileage (32mpg at 80mph regularly). I just hate driving it.
That's the main reason I decided to trade 32mpg+ for the 25mpg R for the drive to Nashville earlier this year

Yep, agreed. Wife drove the CRV and hated it so we ended up with the Outback. I want her in a Q7 or X5/X7 soon-ish because I hate the unrefined driving characteristics of the Subaru. Might wait for the new MDX to drop as well as the GV80 before deciding though.

Granted, you wanting Q7/X5/MDX/GV80 puts the Ascent to shame from a lux perspective.

I'd consider the Atlas if it was a real euro car and not a made for USA hack job. Unfortunately that only leaves the luxury makes/models to get the driving experience I want.

I'd love the current gen Touareg R. It bugs me that we're not worthy enough for it.

Quick update: The Golf is mostly back to stock. Only the front subframe deadset kit, folding mirrors, euro tails, euro headrests, and tune remain. That stuff will come off in the next few weeks and then I'll be listing stuff for sale.
I was working on an X3M Comp build allocation back in June, just before the 2022 model was announced, and once that happened the salesperson ghosted us. Since then, I haven't been super stressed about getting rid of the R. I've got just over 25k miles now, and Carvana is offering $38k, so values are still high (and climbing, strangely). I've toyed with the idea of just getting a new Civic hatch as a stopgap until the market normalizes, but finding a 6MT at the moment is fruitless. I'd also probably hate life for the duration of the lease
'22s have started to hit dealers over the last month or two, and I've started some convos, but I haven't pushed too hard. In the meantime, house projects and being a dad have taken precedence.
So yeah, pointless update

Today is my first day back to work since Dec 12th. It's very rare that I use a computer when I'm not working, and the Azine mobile site sucks, so I took a vacation from forums as well lol
Also, I'm still in awe at the ineptitude of VDOT over that fiasco
Over the last 2 months I've started to reassess everything going on in our life. The Golf R is still being sold once a replacement is found. The E63 idea is dead right now. Cars with 40k miles are now listed at $10-15k more than cars with 10k miles 2 years ago. I can't bring myself to pay an inflated amount on a depreciating asset just because inventory is tight. It won't last that way forever, and I can be
I really like the X3MC. I go to the BMW site once a week and config one But the reality is that I drive my car ~50 miles a week. Spending $1000/mo - plus gas, insurance, and taxes - is really hard to justify. I drive my daughter to daycare and return home (4.8 miles each way). Any other time all of us go out, we're in the CR-V. So I've started looking at smaller, cheaper, more utilitarian (but fun) cars to hold me over for 2-3 years - or allow me to get a weekend car.
Annoyingly, Ford killed the Fiesta/Focus ST. I like the new mk8 Golf but all of the touch buttons are a major turnoff, and the price is laughable ($36k configured the way I would order one, and that's with cloth seats). Who knows when the new R is hitting our shores, but that's $44k, so I'm back where I currently am - paying too much for something I don't really use. The Elantra and Veloster are hideous. I wish we got the i20N. I refuse to buy used at this time because everything is inflated. So that really only leaves one shitty, annoying, horrible choice.
The new Civic Si. It's under $30k OTD. A $700 tune gives it GTI power, it gets great gas mileage, looks much better than the last gen, and the reviews have been pretty great. I've been working with a somewhat local dealership (thanks @CLtotheTL32 for the help) to get one ordered. I'm just not sure on color - I'm between Aegean Blue and Platinum White Pearl. I'm still waiting on an ETA, but yeah...civicdrivr will be in a civic again

I'm glad you are ok, hope you had a great vacation and understand the used car market madness.
If you don't need the GTI, why not take advantage of the inflated prices and sell, save the money & use it in a year (or when prices return to normal) towards what you really want? If you really needed a second car Uber (and the like) is a cheap alternative.

The fiance and I have different work schedules - she goes to the office and works 7-4, I work from home 8-5 (though it's usually much later). Having one car would be very difficult. Uber/Lyft in my area isn't very reliable, and it's expensive since I'm not in the city.
I could potentially drop my daughter off at daycare by 630a, come back and toss the keys to Casey, and she can get our daughter when she gets out. But if there's an emergency at daycare, or a doctors appointment, or anything else during the work day that needs to be done, we're relying completely on Casey to handle that, or it's impacting our work schedules.
And yes, the vacation was much needed. It wasn't as relaxing as I would've wanted. Last week I dealt with a sick kid (again) that couldn't go to daycare, and this week daycare & Caseys work was closed because of the snow/ice, so the last two days of my vacation weren't really a vacation at all.

y u no go EV?
Sounds like 50 miles a week is a perfect use case for one. The new Hyundai and Kia EV's look amazing and the Mockey might be a good option too.

I've been seeing more MachE & a few ID4 on my commute. Not sure I'd put my $$ into one, but they have a bit better aesthetics over the Teslas, IMO.
Had to At the Model3 I saw this morning, on some cheap looking aftermarket wheels.
Wheels were similar to the type usually found on buy here/pay here type cars. Definitely made the 3 look cheap & just didn't fit with the styling of the car.

2024 Honda Civic Type R
Congrats on the Civic Si. Seems like a solid choice for your circumstance. It does suck that the choices are so slim now. My wife asked me yesterday why I am waiting for the Golf R, and why not get something else. I said what else is there, especially in manual? She mentioned the M3 again but I said forget it as it's too expensive especially with a little one on the way. So I'll just keep driving the ST and wait.
A new Focus ST would be a pretty cool choice for you. But like you said, the Si can cover pretty much all the bases, and it would have a great resale value for you a few years down the road when you're ready to move on.
Oh and you have white now on the R so maybe go blue? I think it looks a little more aggressive in blue as well.

I'm still looking for something that's fun. Hyundai/Kia isn't it. The ID series is hideous. Tesla is expensive, and also hell no. The Mach E is my favorite of the bunch but pricey, if you can find one.
The wheels made the Tesla look cheap? Usually it's the fit and finish.

The new Ioniq5 is said to be pretty fun to drive and about as quick as a GTI. On the same note, how much fun are you going to be having in 5 miles a day? The engine will barely even warm up in that time lol.
