civicdrivr's golfcart and Z8 - 5 thread

Did I do that right? :snicker:

Anyway, most of you know that I was chosen to be one of the first 86 people in the states to purchase an FR-S before the general release. My car came in last Friday, but with scheduling conflicts and slight errors in the paperwork, I wasn't able to pick it up until last night, May 16th. Its an Asphalt 6MT.

The only accessories I got were the clear bra, carpeted trunk mat, and wheel locks. So far, I absolutely love the car. The driving position is perfect, the seats hug you (Im 6', 160lbs), the transmission is nice and direct, the steering is precise, and the brakes are very linear and grab well. The car shares a lot of components with the WRX, as it really is a Subaru built with Toyotas money.

The 200hp figure is misleading, at least for me. With the cars low weight, it actually has some decent pick up. Its clearly not in the same league as my built CL, but it'll hold its own. Accelerating from 60 to 80mph in 6th, the car doesnt bog down at all. The powerband is obviously different though. Im used to being able to chug around town at 2k rpms in my CL. There is no torque in the FR-S at 2k rpms. But it starts to wake up around 3500rpm. Im not getting on the car very hard though, so who knows what the powerband really is like at WOT.

The EPS was the one thing that made me worried about the car. Its going to take a bit of getting used to, but its very direct. At slow speeds (<10mph) its very light and turns easily. But it firms up noticeably once the speeds increase. Its got a nice weight to it in my opinion.

The build quality is very good. It puts the new Si to shame, honestly (what doesn't these days :whyme: ). I've not yet had any fun with it with Sport mode or VSA/TCS off, but that will happen soon :D

Anyway, enough blabbering, heres the goods:

Big thanks to Grimmspeed for giving me a license plate relocation kit. Im not done with the install though, I want to drill a hole in the bumper plug so there isnt a gaping hole behind the plate bracket, hopefully I can do that tomorrow or Saturday before the meet on Sunday.

Current Mods:
-Grimmspeed License Plate Relocator

Planned Mods:
-Tints
-Coilovers
-18" wheels + stickier tires
-Lip kit
-Exhaust and intake once I find something I like

Knowing me there will plenty more mods, but Im keeping it simple for now :tomato:

So sick Morgan. Congrats bud. I love the gauges! Can't wait to see it in person. When is the general release for it in the states anyway? Also I spy the CL in the first pic!

Indeed, shes lurking in the background, pissed that she won't be getting all the attention now.

Congrats man!!

Car looks great. I'm really liking these. Not sure how someone my build would fit in one though (5'11", 225) i feel awkward enough in my MS3 :tomato:

speedemon90 05-17-2012 01:28 PM

Your pics make the interior look better than the official ones lol...

Congrats man! Super jealous!

JS + XES 05-17-2012 01:44 PM

Yes, it is VERY ugly. But it gets the job done for now. Ill probably get the new Pioneer AppRadio2 or just migrate the CarPC into it.

:spit:

There are a few people on the forum that have been asked that.

Also, the finance guy at my dealer had no idea it was RWD

After I sat in both at the NYIAS, I was planning on jumping over to the Subie side. But Im not using it as a daily driver, so the $3k saved could go to mods. Plus Subies nav system is junk.

Bdog 05-17-2012 01:54 PM

Sweet, looks good!

ttribe 05-17-2012 01:55 PM

Very nice! I like the color, BTW.

gatrhumpy 05-17-2012 01:58 PM

Nice acquisition there! Good Luck with it!

CLtotheTL32 05-17-2012 02:25 PM

I think we specified that we wanted 30+ pictures :annoyed:

Congrats Morgan. I look forward to seeing it at IA this summer

65 Fury Convert 05-17-2012 02:48 PM

Congrats on the new car! It looks great (except for that front license plate). I haven't seen one on the road out here yet but they look great in the pics I've seen.

Infamous425 05-17-2012 02:56 PM

suite! saw a white one driving around yesterday that looked very nice

CLassy02 05-17-2012 03:02 PM

I really see no reason for front plates. If you get pulled over the cop is going to be behind you anyway. There's really no dire need for a plate on the front of the car.

chill_dog 05-17-2012 03:05 PM

I don't see you with a stick of butter and bacon...

Congrats! I know you'll enjoy it . Let the mods begin!!

swoosh 05-17-2012 03:10 PM

That color is even nicer in daylight! Congrats and happy modding!

05TLdcc 05-17-2012 03:31 PM

Awesome, morgan! Great color choice. I know you wanted hot pink but I think asphalt grey looks a bit better! :D

007Acura 05-17-2012 03:40 PM

Congrats, I really like the color!

aznboi2424 05-17-2012 03:47 PM

I wish I could see the pics at work

CCColtsicehockey 05-17-2012 03:54 PM

:woot:  Congrats Morgan! Looks awesome

Definitely needs the new wheels though. Only thing I am not really crazy about. Advan RS-D in 18s

Also that headunit needs to go it looks like it is from the original Scion tC release.

You are an Android user so you should get one of these two options when they come out.

Yea, I hate the front plate too. The bracket Im running is much better then the bracket Toyota uses. I told the dealer numerous times no to mount it since theyd have to drill into the bumper. Luckily, they listened.

Yea, the state had a bill to stop requiring a front plate. I havent heard much about it recently.

Double fail on my part - we had no bacon at home :annoyed:

You heard it from the organizer, I have to bring this instead of the CL now

Hot pink was special order and cost $1199 more :annoyed: I got a pink keyfob protector instead.

Thanks! I am using Android. The stock unit, while hideous, doesnt sound that bad. Plus it has Bluetooth built in.

jjashaa 05-17-2012 04:22 PM

nice.

looks better than i thought.

this is interesting

RaviNJCLs 05-17-2012 04:35 PM

That's sweet. Take a lot more pics. And I'm in for more updates.

I think the subtle curve lines make it look like a much more elegant sports car.

JS + XES 05-17-2012 04:55 PM

Make sure to install those 10000000K HIDs on your fogs! :woot:

CLassy02 05-17-2012 04:57 PM

So when will the car be released to people who aren't the first 86? Google search is kind of all over the place with this.

JS + XES 05-17-2012 05:02 PM

end of May.

I called around all local Scion and Subaru dealerships, and they all confirmed that they are receiving their first batch at the end of this month.

Get ready to dish out $5k mark up on BRZs though. :chuckle:
