Pretty good! I know I haven't been on here in a loooong time, so I have 'splainin' to do:
- Ditched the Lexus
- Got a GTI
- Got a new girlfriend
- Got a new job
- Ditched the old new girlfriend
- Built a house
- Got a dog
- Got a new new girlfriend
- Ditched the GTI
- Got a Golf R
There have been ups and downs, which is to be expected, but I'm happy - which is the most important thing.
How's everything with you?

Here's some pics of the new daily/fun car - a 2018 Oryx White Golf R 6MT that I picked up April 20th of this year.
It came off the truck, went to detail, and was then put into a showroom that is closed off to most customers.
Old vs New
The very next day, it went into the garage and onto jackstands for full paint correction (not much was required though) and ceramic coating.
I love the pearl in this paint.
While the car was on jackstands, I removed the factory resonator and installed spacers (10mm front, 17.5mm rear). About a month later, I installed a PowerFlex hybrid dogbone insert and a RocEuro stabilizer. I was surprised how much of a difference this made, especially in shifting feel.
And speaking of shifting, I installed the ECS short shifter, along with 42 Draft Designs shifter cable bushings, the OE VW metal cable bracket (the factory part is plastic and can flex a bit), solid bracket bushings, installed a stainless steel clutch line which deleted the swirl valve on the firewall, and removed the check valve in the bleeder block for additional pedal feel.
Then in June, I got bored with stock power levels and decided to void my drivetrain warranty I flashed the Eurodyne Stage 1.5 93oct tune, taking the car from 292hp/280tq to a claimed 363hp/380tq.
But, after a few months, that got boring too. Plus, I really wanted to hear the engine a bit more, but exhausts don't add power on these cars, and most of them are stupid expensive. So, I removed one of the cats:
Cold start up vid
The downpipe along with the Eurodyne Maestro stage 2 file brings the car up to a claimed 394hp/418tq. It's surprisingly quick, and I'm very happy with how smooth it is. Before the downpipe, the car was a bit jerky in the 2500-3k rpm range, but it's all ironed out now. I'll be getting a pro-tune soon so I can run E85, and my next major mod is a port injection kit. Also, launch control sounds hilarious, but I've yet to use it because I don't want to fry the notoriously weak factory clutch.
But anyway, this is how she currently sits, next to my girlfriends CRV. Once the FR-S is gone, I'll be parking her in the garage again.
Mod List:
- CQuartz UK Ceramic Coating
- VW671 3D printed front license plate mount
- BMW rear license plate mount (gets the plate off of the paint)
- Acexxon rear reflector deletes
- ECS Flush Kit (10mm/17.5mm spacers)
- Weathertech Window Visors (not my favorite, but they help with wind buffeting when the windows are cracked)
- Llumar Formula One ceramic tint, 35%
- ECS front to back and side to side short shifter
- 42DD shift cable bushings
- OE VW shift cable bracket
- ECS shift cable bushings
- ECS SS clutch line
- Removed swirl valve and bleeder block check valve
- WCT accelerator pedal spacer (raises the pedal about 1/2" for easier heel-toeing)
- SRP aluminum pedals
- Leyo aluminum radio and climate control knobs
- Raceseng Sphereology shift knob
- VW Homelink rearview mirror
- VW aspherical sideview mirrors
- P3 vent gauge w/ performance timer pack
- APR boost tap
- Eurodyne Maestro Stg2
- Integrated Engineering downpipe, coated by SwainTech
- Forge Motorsports turbo blanket
- Snow grate removed from factory airbox
- Intake snorkel trimmed
- Audi S3 resonator delete kit
- Superpro 22mm rear sway bar
- PowerFlex hybrid dog mount insert
- RocEuro stabilizer bar
- Many coding tweaks
I have around 6500 miles on the car now. I absolutely love it. I seriously considered a Civic Type R, but the dealers near me had them at a $10k markup and wouldn't budge. I also considered a Focus RS, but I'm not a fan of those motors and the suspension would need to be replaced with something livable the second I drove off the lot - so it just wasn't worth it. It also didn't help that the interior does not feel like it belonged in a $40k car.

I looked at the Civic Si too, just for shits and grins. It's a great package, especially at that price, but the 1.5l is weak. They should've gone with a detuned/smaller turbo 2l

Ur now blocked.
Seriously though, I keep ranting and raving about my damn A3 manual...I removed the cat and man I swear the thing actually moves pretty well...
I can only imagine in this thing.
Like they say in top gear...if you could only have one car...
Glad to hear your life is great, man...I love how you made bullet points instead of being wordy but you got your point across.
I too have somewhat kept up via flickr and IG but...you know...this is the source for us.

I still have my snow tires from the GTI, but I don't think they'll fit the R - not that we get anywhere near as much snow as you though. I am looking forward to snonuts this year though

You're alive!!!
Question about the ECS short shifter. How does the shifter feel in the car now? After driving a 6MT version of the R, I was left largely disappointed with the absolute lack of any pedal or shifter feel.
The DSG is the first time I've ever really considered getting an auto. But prefer not to. So can the shifter feel be improved? Friends of mine are pushing me towards a 6MT R, and just do a clutch and short shifter upgrade on it. Thoughts?
I will likely end up voiding warranty also, but whatever. I'll probably keep it at stage 1.5 at most.
I'm still considering a 2016 S4 in 6mt... But I'm starting to realize the odds of me finding one optioned the way I like is near zero

I was snooping around your home improvement thread too and thought I saw a blue R in the background
