Yup, thanks In that regard I feel very fortunate. I'm hesitant to get another car given how bad my luck is ... I think I should wait to see if I move and then get a car there in case my bad luck is just localized

Wow, I'm sorry to hear about all of your troubles, especially the lawsuit. What the hell is that guy thinking?!?!
#524
I really feel for you. I always try and say "well, it could be worse" and it still could be, but you just have some awful luck.
And yes, thankfully the guy stayed. Sad to say that's surprising these days.

Oof... not the greatest update. Sorry to hear. Hopefully your bad luck stays in MD if you decide to move.

Wow no way! Maybe it's time to make an appointment with the voodoo witch doctor?
So sorry to hear this. Poor ST.
Maybe you should just get an H2? The dogs would fit for sure.

I don't think I could fit an H2 in my driveway

Damn dude sorry to hear about that. At least the guy had the decency to wait and tell you. That's super rare. But still, it's crazy the bad luck you've experienced with each car. Looking at the list though seems like you should have kept the Speed3 lol.

I haven't bought a new car to replace the ST because a much as the ST annoys the shit out of me, I can't find anything I like that is better. I have to make compromises (gladly) because of my dogs but that eliminates cars I do like a lot (like the S5).

If the bumper cover comes back pained matte pink and the body shop asserts they've properly restored the part to factory finish, I suggest you sell all of your cars and buy a skateboard. The car gods will have spoken in finality.

Hey, Herr Avanthumper, you want this thread updated with BMW M235i too?

Sadly the M235i is out of my price range. Had delusions of a 228i M-Sport for a minute but getting my dogs in the back ... Plus if I was going to get one of those I should just wait for the Golf R to compare

But starting at $46k, and $50k after cold package, tech package, enhanced USB, and premium sound, that's fetching a pretty penny for the size.

I'm still in the mix for the Colorado job so that may make me wait ... Which would bring the Golf R into the mix.
Honestly, I wish I didn't have such a sour taste about the ST. I really would prefer to get this paid off and not have a car payment. I may have to just suck it up.

So I've got the Mustang home and have driven it last night and today.
Initial impressions are that the car is much nicer than the Focus ST. There's things on it included in the Premium package like backup camera, BLIS, Homelink, etc that really are nice additions to the car. Inside, I think the materials are about equal to the Focus in most areas. Some places, like the knobs and switches are nicer, and others like the leather the Recaros were better.
So how does it drive?
Very, very different from the Focus ST. The Mustang is a big car. Probably the biggest I've ever had. It's certainly the longest and probably the widest. The transmission is great with very precise shifts and a light throw. The clutch is great so far as well. The 6th gear is a true overdrive gear and turns less than 2K RPM at 70mph. That's probably how the car gets 32mpg on the highway.
Power ... Given I had a Focus ST with a Cobb AP, this Mustang is slower. It's not slow, and I'm certainly not getting on the throttle until the car hits 500 miles. But, it doesn't leap around like the Focus ST did. I think the extra power from the Cobb AP for the Ecoboost will be really welcome.
It's great to drive. It's great to ride in. The 12 speaker Shaker system is really nice from what I've heard so far (listened to classical music on the way home last night to calm me down).
I never thought I'd be a Mustang guy. There's a part of me that wonders if I made the right decision but I certainly don't regret trading the Focus ST. It's really nice to get into a car without worrying about wire harness and headlight issues as it approaches the end of warranty.

Thanks for all the congratulations last night. The buying experience really sucked. I wish I had one similar to what you guys shared. I tried the email thing, I tried going through a buying service, and then ended up using X-Plan. The dealer is a weasel and I'll never visit them again.
I'm really hopeful this is my last car purchase for the next 5-7 years.

I didn't see your posts in General Car Talk until just now. Congrats on the 'Stang! Cheers to this car being gremlin-free.
Can't wait to see some photos. Absolutely great color and option choices, too.

Dat curve ... Can't wait until the Spring to get the new tune. It's going to totally transform the car.
This was the Focus ST's graph:

Congrats! Welcome to the club! DIB was actually my first color choice but I couldn't find one with non-ceramic interior. I xplan as well since nobody wants to dealer trade the new mustangs and the one I bought was basically my only option within several hours. I had a great buying experience. No sell from the business manager. It was a TINY dealer and it was their only mustang. I tried to finance with them but being small town they could not compete. I borrowed my salesman's truck and drove across the hwy and got a cashiers check from my bank. I may refi with my CU when the title comes in. Never done a cash deal before. He asked "any interest in an extended warranty?" I was like "nah" and that was that.
