Charging an iPhone 5?
Hi Guys,
First off, I have a 2012 Infiniti G37 Sedan...Just so we don't get confused here...![Smile](https://acurazine.com/forums/images/smilies/smile.gif)
I had a bit of an issue last weekend, and it made me realize I need a car charging solution ASAP.
I was visiting some old friends in Orlando, and drove home in some torrential downpour, and it took forever to get back. What is usually a 3 hour drive turned into a 5.5 hour drive! Anyways, I had 35% battery when I left (probably a bad idea to begin with), and realized a hour into the trip I left my charger at my friends. He's already shipped it back, and I should receive it today. I was using Google Maps to get onto the highway from where I was, and left it on once I was on the highway. It seemed to really drain the battery. I ended up putting it in Airplane mode at 10% battery, and it got down to 4-5% battery. I turned it off, and figured I'd call my folks when I got closer and turn it back on, as I was meeting them for dinner. I tried to turn it back on and just got the red low battery indicator and it wouldn't go back on.
For those iPhone 5 users, how are you charging your phones in the car? Do you use an actual car charger, or just use the USB to Lightning connector and plug it in? Is there a benefit to either? Any issues in using a car charger for the car/phone battery? I've never really used one EVER, hard to believe.
Thanks!

Plug you USB cable into your car if you have one. The phone will regulate the charge rate, so different setups won't matter. If the car is running, gasoline is powering the phone. Even if it isn't, a 700 amp, 12V battery could charge a phone no problem.

^ What he said. I charge my phone using my Lightening Cable and a USB connection when in a car. In my Mini, I plug it into the iPod cable that the car came with, and have a 30pin to lightening adapter so I can have charging and syncing capabilities.

I plug in my 5 with the lightning cable into my car's USB slot.
Plain and simple.

Remember, power through USB may not be enough to overcome heavy data use and poor reception.

I use a Rocketfish charger and lightning cable with my iPhone5.
And
with Ken; when I had my iPhone4, the USB connection made for a horribly slow charge in both my MDX and Accord. So, I havent bothered to try it with my 5.

I'm not very familiar with the G37 and what features it has but for my TL, which lacks a factory USB port, I use this to charge my phone.
Amazon.com: Belkin F8J071bt04-BLK Belkin 2-Port Car Charger with Lightning to USB Cable 2.1 AMP for iPhone 5, iPod touch, iPod nano, iPad and iPad mini - Car Charger - Retail Packaging - Black: Cell Phones & Accessories
I opted for the dual usb port on the charger because I also have a first gen iPod touch that requires charging from time to time as well. I use it as my music source because I can't stand the stuff that's being played on the radio these days. GF has an iPhone 4 so she can charge her phone alongside with mine if needed to as well.
So far, everything meets my expectations.
If your G37 has the built in iPod connector, you could always get the Lightning to 30-pin adapter?
