cars that hold their value.

Euros, Japanese Keep Most Value

A new report from Kelley Blue Book says that European and Japanese cars are among those most likely to hold more value as they age. The report, culled from Kelley's estimates of 2005 model-year vehicles, puts the following vehicles as those that will retain the most value in the next five years: the BMW 5-Series, MINI Cooper, Acura TL, Infiniti G35 coupe, Mazda RX-8, Mercedes-Benz CLK 320 cabriolet and Nissan 350 Z cars, and Volvo XC90, Lexus GX 470 and Porsche Cayenne sport-utility vehicles. Kelley's report adds that BMW's vehicles are poised to retain the most value over the same period, at about 50 percent of their value. Kelley says its report is based on current demand and historic resale values.

got this from a site that i always go to. To bad no TSX

I have a feeling some of those will not be true come 2009. The new 5 series and the Cayenne will drop more than the historical average as will the RX8. As soon as the SUV craze wears off all of them as a group will lose their resale value also.
Putting a resale value on the XC90 5 years hence is pure guessing - there is no historical value to go by. It's in the same category as the Toureg.
And if you look at the rankings, most of the top tier models are seperated by a couple of %. I'd venture to guess that there are a few other Lexus models that will be in there come 2009.

Don't give it a sweat. It's pretty hard to predict what the value of a new car model will be after only one year this car has been out there.

More accurate numbers should be out within 2 or 3 years from now.

I think BMWs are going to be in a down swing, due to the styling. I used to like every single one of their cars and today they don't have a single new model that I actually like. I can't be the only person who changed their mind. Judging by the 4-series, they aren't improving. Unless they pull a magic trick for the 3-series they're well on the way to losing their status as most-desirable brand.

Today, the yuppies are still buying these cars based on brand, but in the next few years, when that image has worn off, will it still be the case?

Doesn't anyone else think the 4-series looks like an RSX?

I wish that happen SOON but just wish.
But since the craze been around for a while, what makes you think it will happen in say the next 10 years, if ever ? Have you read some sort of article that predicts that ?

Just looking at historical trends - when something is bought for subjective reasons (the SUV thing is a fad - very few people actually need them - people are buying them for status) it is bound to go slacken. Station wagons of the 70s with wood side panels are a good example.
I think the minivan trend has already peaked.

The resale value of my 99 Accord is close to 50% of purchase price - about the same as some of the best on the list.
